Summer may be over, but perfect weather still reigns at CoCo Key Water Resort in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. The perfect place for a weekend getaway, birthday celebration, or stay-cation, visitors to the indoor water park enjoy splashes and thrills within close proximity to many New Jersey and Philadelphia attractions.
The fun starts with Parrot’s Perch aquatic jungle gym. Climb, slide, and shoot water cannons, then keep your eye on the 300-gallon bucket so you can be standing under it when it dumps! Three water slides provide twists, turns and drops for the adventurous. Shoot some hoops in the three-foot-deep pool, or hone your core strength and balance on the Lilly Pad challenge – where you balance on floating lily pads while pulling yourself along an overhead cargo net. When you start to get tired, kick back and float along the Coconut Grove Lazy River.
For the littlest splashers, CoCo Key has a toddler area that is uniquely located up a flight of stairs from the rest of the action – wonderful for moms who want to keep their younger ones contained in a safe area. Sitting only a foot deep, this pool features baby slides and baby bungees.
Only twelve miles from downtown Philadelphia, my family found more than just sleeping accommodations at The Hotel ML which houses CoCo Key. After spending a few hours in the water park, we headed to Talia’s for dinner. Beyond the excellent food and service, we were delighted by a visit from Tickles the Clown. My kids are a bit old for clowns (8 and 14), but Tickles adjusted her usual routine and made the kids laugh. Balloon animals were given out, and my daughter was impressed by the creation of a small dog from a mardi-gras-like bead string.
As we walked out of dinner, CoCo himself was in the hallway to greet us. This scuba-diving parrot, the mascot of CoCo Key, immediately took my daughter by the hand and led her away. I followed, of course, feeling just the tiniest bit alarmed. But my discomfort disappeared when I saw that CoCo was leading us to the dance party room. I had seen a flyer about the dance party, but, honestly, it’s not something I would have chosen to attend. We walked into the room and the party vibe took over. CoCo had us on the dance floor whooping it up with the other guests in no time. Soon we were exhausted and sweaty and headed for a solid night’s sleep in our spacious room.
In addition to CoCo’s dance parties, The Hotel ML also has regular movie nights and “Breakfast with CoCo.” At The Hotel ML and CoCo Key, you get much more than a water park and a place to sleep.
