There’s nothing to help those anxious pandemic feelings like a good chocolate chip cookie. While we’ve seen some good copycat recipes over the years for the Doubletree cookie, the company just released its official recipe. Get ready to bake!

We could hardly contain our squeals of excitement when we saw the press release from Hilton announcing the reveal of its official cookie recipe for the first time ever. Warm Doubletree cookies are extremely popular in the SheBuysTravel writer world.

We’re not saying we book a room at a Doubletree Hotel JUST to get a cookie at check-in  but… who are we kidding? We do. We book the room for the warm cookie. And while we’ve found other good chocolate chip cookie recipes to make at home they just never reached that warm Doubletree welcome cookie level.

But now? Now you can recreate the Doubletree cookie at home.

“We know this is an anxious time for everyone,” said Shawn McAteer, senior vice president and global head, DoubleTree by Hilton, said as the COVID-19 pandemic stay-at-home order wore on. “A warm chocolate chip cookie can’t solve everything, but it can bring a moment of comfort and happiness.”

Truth, Shawn McAteer, truth. With all of the ingredients in our pantry, we set out to make a batch. The verdict? This is the real official Doubletree chocolate chip cookie recipe. The flavor is there. All that’s missing is the paper bag presentation, so we might have improvised a little.

DoubleTree cookies are on the chewy side of things. If you’ve got a crispy cookie lover in your family, opt instead to make Disney’s Grand Floridian chocolate chip cookies. These are the crispy cookie you’ve been looking for. You don’t have to wait for National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day (August 4, 2020) to celebrate. Why not make both and have a family taste-off?

Doubletree Cookie Taste Test

We went ahead and made these. The verdict? They’re super close. We baked them in batches. The later batches that came from dough that had been sitting out a bit before they went in the oven, were flatter and closer to the actual Doubletree cookies. So let the dough sit for a few minutes before baking.

Also, out of pantry supply necessity we substituted pecans and they were delicious. The hotel chain’s cookies have the nuts chopped very finely so be sure to do so when you try to duplicate the recipe.

SheBuysTravel Tip: When the recipe said to let the cookies cool for one hour on the trays, I laughed. I mean, they’re served warm at the hotel. But there’s a good reason to let them rest after baking: These cookies are so soft and chewy that you risk ruining the cookies if you try to remove them too early. Let them cool completely, then use a spatula to carefully remove them.

DoubleTree Signature Cookie Recipe

Makes 26 cookies

Ingredients

  • ½ pound butter, softened (2 sticks)
  • ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch cinnamon
  • 2 2/3 cups Nestle Tollhouse semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 3/4 cups chopped walnuts

Instructions:

Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.

Add eggs, vanilla and lemon juice, blending with mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy, scraping down bowl.

With mixer on low speed, add flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, blending for about 45 seconds. Don’t overmix.

Remove bowl from mixer and stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.

Portion dough with a scoop (about 3 tablespoons) onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper about 2 inches apart.

Preheat oven to 300°F. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.

Remove from oven and cool on baking sheet for about 1 hour.

Cook’s note: You can freeze the unbaked cookies, and there’s no need to thaw. Preheat oven to 300°F and place frozen cookies on parchment paper-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
