Occasionally we need a family vacation experience unique from the others. Somewhere that we can fully embrace the vast outdoors from sunrise until sunset yet still have a relaxing place to lay our heads. That’s where “glamping” comes in! Simply put, glamping is a camping experience that crosses outdoor cooking with luxury. From cabins and treehouses to wagons and RVs, read on to find some of the coolest spots to go glamping in Texas with kids.
What is glamping and why do I find it attractive? Glamping is glamorous camping, although it’s easy to argue that a vacation focused on outdoor adventure probably isn’t going to be very glamorous.
Generally, glamping refers to nice canvas tents outfitted with a comfy bed. But increasingly, glamping options have expanded to include yurts, teepees, treehouses, even luxury RVs that are all set up and ready for you to move in — no driving, towing, parking or hooking up required.
Whatever the accommodations, glamping for me means not sleeping on the ground and having access to hot water and flush toilets in my very immediate area and maybe even access to air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. I don’t mind getting dirty and cooking my food outdoors but when it comes to beds and showers, well…I want them.
If you’re thinking about glamping in Texas, I’m here to take you through your options for glamping spots in the Lone Star State.

Glamping in Texas
I grew up camping in Texas. We camped as a family and I camped with youth groups and scouts. As a parent, it’s fun to share my love of the outdoors with my kids. But roughing it with younger kids doesn’t work for me.
Glamping — sleeping in a bed but cooking outside — seemed like a happy compromise and there are plenty of fun places that offer glamping in Texas.
My two youngest kids are 11 and we’re just now dipping our toes into the world of tent camping. If you want to experience the joys of the great outdoors with the ease offered by the great indoors, this overview of glamping in Texas is for you.
Disclaimer: Texas is a large state. Like most Texans, I don’t miss an opportunity to point that out. Because Texas is so huge, we are focusing on glamping options near major tourist areas and the big cities.
General Advice for a Glamping Getaway
Know What You’re Getting Into
Make sure you read the fine print in the property description carefully. While glamping cabins can be hotel-like, they may not offer the same amenities as a hotel. Make sure you are clear on who provides sheets, towels and bathroom amenities like soap and toilet paper. If your bathroom includes one roll of toilet paper and you’re responsible for replenishing it, you don’t want to find that out when your child tells you she needs more TP.
In my experience, the kitchen equipment in most glamping resort kitchenettes is pretty basic, so if your food plan relies on a certain utensil or a really good pan, bring it with you.

Embrace the Outdoors
Glamping is still camping, but with a comfy bed. Get in the outdoor mindset. Plan to make meals outdoors on a grill or over a campfire. Pack the bikes, boogie boards and baseball gloves. You’ll want to have some card games or board games for the evening or a rainy day so the kids don’t spend the time staring at the flat screen that might be included in your glamping accommodations.
And forego the idea that you’ll get a little work done while you’re there. You might only get a strong cell signal in a certain part of the campground and the wifi might be spotty.
Glamping in Texas Hill Country
San Antonio, Austin and the small towns in between and around these two large Texas cities offer almost endless options for glamping in Texas. This is the area where I live and I am constantly amazed by the options available for weekend getaway or vacations.
SheBuysTravel Tip: A lot of the coolest glamping spots cater to couples and child-free groups. If you are vacationing with your kids, make sure to check whether the treehouse, yurt, tiny house or other glamping accommodation welcomes kids and/or pets before you get too excited about staying there.
Camp Fimfo – New Braunfels TX
Camp Fimfo is a newly opened campground in New Braunfels with lots of amenities in a fun, quirky setting. There are over 200 RV sites and several options for cabins, from a rustic A-frame cabin that sleeps two to a spacious, decorated Coyote Cabin with space for 12 to sleep.
Riverview Cabins start at $120 per night (note there are no bathrooms inside the Riverview cabins and guests must walk a short distance to use the facilities), Bluebonnet Cabins (sleeps eight) start at $184 per night and the Coyote Cabins start at $258 per night. Prices may vary based on season.
One of the biggest selling points for Camp Fimfo is direct access to the Guadalupe River. If you’re into tubing or kayaking, you can launch from inside the campground. You can also fish, swim or just take in the incredible views.
Other Camp Fimfo amenities include a pool and waterpark (the pool is open year round but the waterpark has seasonal hours), miniature golf, organized games and activities, an on site store and family-friendly tavern with retro board games.

Hill Country Cottages and RV Resort – New Braunfels TX
If you want to explore New Braunfels, I recommend booking Hill Country Cottages versus a hotel room. It’s close enough to everything you’ll want to see and do and you’ll be more comfortable because there’s more room and more to do outside.
This camping/glamping resort in New Braunfels has several options for cottage rentals. These cute cottages start at around $120 per night and move up to $250 per night. Price depends on the size and how many the cottage will sleep.
There are plenty of amenities at Hill Country Cottages, including indoor and outdoor pools, a playground, free wifi and organized activities such as gem mining, karaoke, arts and crafts and movie nights.
SheBuysTravel Tip: If you are traveling with a baby or toddler, check to make sure your cabin or rental has a crib. If not, you might want to make plans to take your own crib, playpen, or pack and play. Check out what our Traveling Dads have to say about packing baby gear on a trip.
Glamping in a Delivered RV
Renting an RV was one of the hottest travel trends of 2020. But not everyone is ready for the challenge of towing a trailer, parking it at a campground and figuring out all of the hookups. (If you do all of that, you’ll want to avoid these embarrassing mistakes.)
For those people, there is RV the glamping way: Rent an RV from an owner who will drive it to the campground and set it all up for you so all you have to do is move in.
RVshare, a company that matches RV owners with people who want to rent RVs, has thousands of RV owners willing to deliver their rental RVs to campgrounds in Texas. To find one, search RVs near where you’d like to go glamping in Texas and filter the search by “delivery.” Then make arrangements with the owner to deliver and set up the RV. Before you know it, you’re a glamper.
In the New Braunfels area, there are more than 800 RV owners who rent their rigs through RVshare and are willing to turn that RV rental into a glamping experience by driving the trailer to a campground and setting it all up for you.
We were taken with this 30-foot trailer that sleeps 6 and has my kids’ favorite accommodation option: bunk beds. The owner will deliver within 50 miles of his base in McQueeny Texas and set it up for $150 round trip. Delivery is a nice option if you just want to glamp. It’s required if you don’t have a truck strong enough to tow a trailer that weighs 6,500 pounds.
Jellystone Park Guadalupe River – Kerrville TX
Not only do you have loads of choices for activities at Jellystone Park Guadalupe River (water park, pool, laser tag, roller skating, arts and crafts) you have many choices when it comes to glamping at this campground. If you’ve got a larger group or just need space to spread out, you can rent a Boo Boo Bungalow — a two bedroom cabin that sleeps eight.
Jellystone Park Guadalupe River has many options for cabin and tiny house rentals. The website categorizes the cabins as Hill Country Cottages, Yogi Bear Cabins, Yankee Doodle Cabins and Cozy Cabins. Most of the cabins sleep six to eight people.
Our family of four stayed in a Hill Country Cottage that could have slept eight but it would have been an extremely tight squeeze if we’d actually had that many people.
RV Delivery to Kerrville Texas
RVshare lists more than 700 RV owners willing to deliver their RVs and set them up at Kerrville area campgrounds, including Jellystone Park Guadalupe River.
This 2017 Newmar Bay Star Sport Class A Motorhome sleeps 6 and has slide-outs that mean the RV has more space than a standard hotel room. Plus, it’s got all the comforts of home, from a fully stocked kitchen to a Smart TV. The owner will deliver within 150 miles of Boerne Texas for $4/mile.
Cypress Valley Treehouses – Spicewood TX
Glamping in a treehouse is the ultimate kid-friendly place to stay. Who doesn’t want to sleep among the trees?
Cypress Valley Treehouses in Spicewood offers several unique treehouses, including a yurt. Most sleep just two, but one sleeps up to 6. Looking out over the cypress trees from your treehouse private deck sounds pretty darn amazing, doesn’t it?
If you want to get more up close and personal with these gorgeous Cypress Trees, check out Cypress Valley Canopy Tours for some real adventure.
Wimberley Texas Glamping Options
Rent this spacious, modern RV sleeps 10 and rents for $139 per night. The owner delivers within 25 miles of his home in Wimberley Texas.
Among our top choices for campgrounds within that 25-mile radius:
Black Canyon Luxury RV Park and Farmhouse Cottages
Black Canyon Luxury RV Park and Farmhouse Cottages is located minutes from Wimberly TX. It offers swimming holes, wineries, wildflowers and shopping. Amenities include WiFi, picnic tables, fire pits and a nature trail.
The charming two-bedroom farmhouse cottages include luxury furnishings, full kitchen and a rocking chair on the front porch.
Lake Pointe RV Resort Canyon Lake
This campground sits right on the shores of beautiful Canyon Lake in Canyon Lake, Texas. Indulge in boating, skiing, fishing and other water sports in the lake or swim in the junior Olympic-size swimming pool.
Cabins and RV sites are less than a mile from the lake, so it’s an easy walk.
Hill Country Lakes RV Campground
Glamp here in a rustic 1800s timber frame cabin or have a rented RV delivered and set up on one of the shady RV sites that come complete with a picnic table, campfire ring and grill. Then head to the marina at Lake Travis to rent a boat. Or stay in the campground and read a book you borrowed from the community center.

Glamping Near Houston
Houston and the surrounding area offers big city excitement and a plethora of choices for fun things to do with kids, great family friendly restaurants and lots of glamping options within an hour’s drive of downtown Houston.
That makes it easy to spend the day playing in the piney woods but head into town for dinner at one of these family-friendly Houston restaurants.
Thousand Trails Campgrounds
Thousand Trails is a nationwide network of campgrounds that operates 17 campgrounds in Texas. The Thousand Trails campgrounds cater to RV campers and glampers but also have a selection of cabins or tiny houses available to rent.
My family has camped and glamped in several Thousand Trails campgrounds. The cabins have always been a hit with us because they are so well-stocked and comfortable.
And the campgrounds have lots of family-friendly amenities. Typically, you’ll find a pool, sports courts and some type of rec center or activity center that offers organized activities and gatherings such as hikes, movie nights and game nights.
Thousand Trails Lake Conroe – Willis TX
Thousand Trails Lake Conroe has a small marina and a little stretch of sandy beach. If you have a kayak or stand up paddle board, bring it with you, or rent one when you arrive.
Thousand Trails Lake Conroe is fairly typical of a Thousand Trails campground in Texas – lots of RV spots and a handful of cabins. Our cabin was stocked with basic kitchenware and bathroom essentials and had a nice deck with a gas grill and picnic table.
Lots of people in the nearby cabins were pitching tents on the ground for their kids to sleep in. I thought this was a fun way to have sort of a hybrid camping experience — let the kids sleep on the ground while I sleep in a bed!
This location is about 30-45 minutes from Houston, so it’s easy to plan day trips to the city.
RV Delivery to Lake Conroe
This brand new Keystone RV Cougar Half-Ton sleeps 9, has three slide-outs and is big enough for a 50-inch TV, electric wall mounted fireplace and 2-massage heated recliners and a king sized bed — a rare find in an RV! Each of the bunks has its own USB port. How happy will this make your kids?
The owner will deliver and set it up at a campground within 55 miles of Willis Texas — which is just 5 miles from the Thousand Trails Lake Conroe Campground.
Creekside Treehouse Rental – Willis TX
If you are planning to go glamping in Texas trip sans kids, you should definitely check out this rustic treehouse.
If your goal is to go glamping and get away from it all, Creekside warrants a look. This treehouse is the perfect combination of rustic and luxurious – check out the beautiful decor – and it has an awesome outdoor space with a fire pit. Perfect for watching the sunset or enjoying morning coffee and views.
Thousand Trails Colorado River – Columbus TX
Columbus is a small Texas town about halfway between San Antonio and Houston. I recommend that you plan day excursions to either city using the campground as a base. (Check out these free things to do in San Antonio with kids and these free things to do in Houston with kids.)
There isn’t a lot to do at this campground beyond a nice mini golf course and a pool. But we visited during the cooler weather and the pool isn’t heated, so my kids enjoyed free play outside.
On the plus side, our cabin was nice and very well-stocked and there were some fun walking trails on the property as well as opportunities to watch wildlife. We made good use of the communal fire pit and used the visit there to model for our kids the importance of relaxation and mental downtime.
This recently refurbished 2017 Keystone Sprinter comes with an outdoor kitchen and can be delivered to Columbus for $100.
SheBuysTravel Tip: If you are traveling to Texas during the spring, many of our Texas glamping locations are near fields of Texas bluebonnets. Beautiful flowers and mild weather make spring a popular time to visit Texas, so book early!
Glamping Along the Texas Gulf Coast
Texas has more than 3,000 miles of shoreline. No matter which Texas beach town you want to glamp in, you’ll find no shortage of RVs available for delivery, like this cute compact Class C RV just 8 miles from Corpus Christi that’s perfect for delivery to Port Aransas or Mustang Island. The RV is smaller but, hey, you’re at the beach! Go outside and play. Delivery within 30 miles is just $99.
South Padre Island KOA
South Padre Island KOA offers cabins, RV sites and tent camping sites. Cabin rentals start at $130 per night. This campground has beach access. It also has a pool, boat dock and options for group activities, such as fishing excursions.
You can catch a free shuttle at the campground entrance that will take you up the island to the beach and over the bridge to the nearby town of Port Isabel.
Here’s a great list of fun things to do in South Padre Island with kids.
Galveston Island KOA
Along with being a popular cruise ship port, Galveston has lots of options for family fun. The Galveston Island KOA offers RV sites and beautiful deluxe cabins that mimic the architecture style of some of the historic homes you’ll find in the city of Galveston.
We are taken with this luxurious 2020 Keystone Fuzion 373. It has 3 slide-outs and an 11-foot garage in the rear that can be used as a second bedroom with its own half bath and queen size bunks. There are 3 A/C units, full size fridge/freezer, oversized reclining sofa, 3 interior TVs and a 4th TV outdoors.
Port A RV Park
Although we’ve been to a great many Texas beaches, Port Aransas is “our beach.” It’s close to where we live and has a decidedly relaxed, family friendly vibe. The majority of restaurants cater to families and children versus the college spring break crowd. When we’re planning to enjoy a beach day with our kids, we don’t want an MTV-worthy dance party on the sand next to us.
South Padre Island is nice, too, but it’s a longer haul for us and should be avoided during college spring break, where odds of encountering that MTV-worthy dance party are pretty good.
This campground doesn’t offer cabins but it’s easy to use RVshare to find an RV that can be delivered to the campsite. We like this giant fifth wheel that can sleep up to 10.
RV Deliveries along the Texas Coast
Here are some other places along the Texas Gulf Coast where you can have an RV delivered, glamping style.
Mustang Island State Park (near Port A)
If you glamp at Mustang Island State Park, you’re camping along the same beach you’ll find outside the parks. Unique to the park are the Mustang Island State Park Paddling Trail, which is 20 miles of shoreline trail that offer great shallow water fishing and bird watching opportunities. Take your kayak, paddle board or small boat (or rent them there) and explore.
If you camp at Mustang Island State Park, you’ll also have the support of on-site rangers from Texas Parks and Wildlife who lead programs on birding, fishing and stargazing.
The campground has sites with electric hookups so you can run the two A/C units in this brand new Shadow Cruiser RV that sleeps 10 and can be delivered to Mustang Island for just $100.
Isla Blanca Park South Padre Island
Located on the southernmost tip of South Padre Island, Isla Blanca Park offers glampers easy access to beach rentals and concessions and fishing jetties. The nearby marina area offers a water park, lots of places to book fishing, water sports and sightseeing excursions, and many dining choices.
This large RV park has 600 full hook-up sites.
SheBuysTravel Tip: RVshare operates on an Airbnb-style system. The RVs are all owned by private parties who rent them through the RVshare platform, just as a homeowner would rent a room on Airbnb. That means the rules for rentals and deliveries can differ. Always read through the RVshare listings and reviews, then contact the owner to ensure your RV rental is the luxurious glamping experience you expect.
Circle W RV Ranch Rockport
Rockport is another great family-friendly beach town. Circle W RV Ranch is a gated RV park that also offers family cabins and efficiency cabins that sleep 2 people.
Amenities include a beautiful pool, a billiards room, fitness center, 50+ miles of walking/biking trails, stocked ponds and more. If you’re there on a Tuesday, check out square dancing night!
Glamping Near Dallas and North Texas
If you’re interested in glamping in Texas and flying in from out of state, choose to fly into Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. It’s a major hub and Dallas is a big city. But there are lots of open spaces close to the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area where you can sleep in a yurt, spend the day kayaking on a lake and head into town for a nice dinner that night.
Silver Spur Resort – Canton TX
Covered wagons are the hot new glamping option and Silver Spur Resort near Dallas has them. The resort also offers glamping in tiny houses and cabins. RV spots are available at the Canton KOA, which is part of Silver Spur.
Each of the four covered wagons has a king sized bed and one or two sets of bunk beds and a small table with chairs. They run $109-$159 per night.
There are no bathrooms inside the wagon (I mean…did you ever hear of a covered wagon with running water?) but there is a dedicated bathhouse close by. And, the pioneers would be jealous to learn, each of the wagons is climate controlled with heat and air conditioning.
For an ultimate glamping RV experience here, have this luxurious 2020 Salem Hemisphere 310 BHI delivered and set up for you. It’s got two bedrooms, a full kitchen, huge TV and outdoor kitchen and shower. The owner will deliver within 200 miles.
Coyote Ranch Resort – Wichita Falls TX
Coyote Ranch Resort has a large selection of cabins, cottages and yurts as well as traditional camping sites. There also are some larger units designed for use by groups or for multi-family use.
The on-site Coyote Beach Wibit Waterpark has lots of inflatables for climbing, sliding and splashing. If you want to enjoy something tamer, there’s a sandy beach where you can set up your chairs and watch from the sidelines.
Other fun amenities include three pools, two jumping pillows, mini golf, and organized activities such as arts and crafts and bingo.
For RV glamping, we like this 2020 Forest River RV. It comes with a king bed (score!) and room to sleep 6 more, a large shower and fridge and 4 TVs–3 inside and one outside.
Lake Texoma RV Campground – Gordonville TX
Another Thousand Trails camping resort, this one is right on Lake Texoma near the Texas-Oklahoma border. You can enjoy water activities from swimming in the pool to boating, kayaking or fishing on the lake — bring your own boat or rent one there. Activities at the campground range from hiking trails to mini golf to pickleball.
The RV to glamp in here is this 2020 KZ Sportsmen RV that sleeps 8. It has indoor and outdoor showers, indoor and outdoor kitchens and two air conditioning units — a welcome addition during a Texas summer.
In addition to RV spots, this campground offers cabins that sleep 4-5 people. There are lots of amenities at this campground, including a marina and boat dock, miniature golf, a pool and nature trails.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Lake Texoma is the “Striped Bass Capital of the World” so it’s very popular for fishing. But two-thirds of the lake lies in Oklahoma. If you want to fish in Lake Texoma, buy a Lake Texoma license ($12) to fish the entire lake; a Texas fishing license only entitles you to fish in the Texas portion of the lake.
RV Glamping in East Texas
The RV pictured above sleeps 9. That means my family of four would have plenty of room to spread out indoors. This rents for $89 per night and the owner will deliver anywhere within 120 miles of Houston and set up the RV for a flat fee of $150. That covers lots of places in East Texas.
Here are some East Texas campgrounds where you can have an RV delivered and set up, glamping style.
Southlake RV Resort
Southlake offers a stocked fishing lake and amenities such as a coffee and popcorn bar, fitness center, and free cable TV/WiFi. This is a great jumping off point to explore Houston.
We couldn’t resist this cute little Forest River R Pod. If you have a small family and are going to be spending time on the lake or heading to Houston, you don’t need a huge RV. This one sleeps four and the owner will deliver within 20 mile of Sugar Land Texas for $75.
Katy Lake RV Resort
This pristine campground in the suburbs of Houston offers many amenities, such as a pool, gas grills, an outdoor TV viewing area, a lighted fishing pier and lots of activities designed to let you meet your fellow campers, such as Taco Tuesday and Saturday morning donuts and coffee.
Magnolia Forest RV Park
Magnolia Forest combines the feeling of being in nature with the convenience of being near Houston. There are three ponds and a creek running through the property as well as lots of grassy areas and hiking trails to explore. This is the place for fishing, watching wildlife and finding a shady spot to read a book.
We like this 32 foot Grand Design Transcend Xplor RV that sleeps 10 and kids will love the bunk beds. The owner will deliver it within 75 miles and set it up for $150. And military members, teachers, and healthcare workers can get RV rental discounts.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Magnolia Forest RV Park does not have a pool, so it’s best for cooler weather when it’s still comfortable to be outside but too chilly for swimming.
Glamping in the Texas Panhandle
The largest city in the Texas panhandle is Amarillo. One of the most popular attractions in the Amarillo area is Palo Duro Canyon, the second largest natural canyon in the U.S. (behind the Grand Canyon). I think it’s one of the prettiest places in Texas. You’re also away from big city life here, which makes for quiet evenings and beautiful night skies.
This is a great place to camp or glamp, hike, enjoy horseback riding and take in stunning views of the canyon. The red rock formations are gorgeous, especially on a sunny day with blue skies.
Historic Route 66, which used to be the main road taking travelers from Chicago to Los Angeles, runs through Amarillo. You can explore quirky shops, check out murals and street art and grab some delicious, Texas-style eats.
Plus, Cadillac Ranch is nearby. Pick up some spray paint and let the kids have fun at this popular roadside attraction that features 10 vintage Cadillacs buried in the dirt, fins up. Visitors bring spray paint, decorate the cars and pose for pictures. Telling your kids to go for it with cans of spray paint on a car just guarantees a good time.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Buy your spray paint before you head out to Cadillac Ranch. The souvenir shop across the road from Cadillac sells it but you’ll pay a premium price.
Palo Duro Glamping
Palo Duro Glamping is a unique camping experience located on the floor of Palo Duro Canyon. There are four unique campsites for rent, appointed with games, bicycles and porch swings. Some even have hammocks!
Check the description of each glamping tent to make sure you know what to expect. These run about $299 per night, which is pricey considering you do not have a private bathroom. That said, being on the canyon floor is a unique experience and probably worth the splurge.
Dove’s Rest Cabins
If you want to look over the canyon instead of up at it, check out Dove’s Rest. These cabins are the ultimate in luxury camping. The spacious floor plans, high-end decor, linens and kitchen amenities all contribute to that feeling of luxury as you enjoy these beautiful outdoor views. Amenities include central AC and heat, washer and dryer, gas grills, smart TVs, and Keurig coffee makers. Many include hot tubs.
All this luxury comes with luxury price tags and these units book up far in advance. All of the Dove’s Rest accommodations can be found on Vrbo as well. Check out the Dove’s Rest website and search the cabins on Vrbo by name.
RV Glamping near Palo Duro
In addition to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, there are several resorts where you can have an RV delivered.
One of the closest to the canyon is this 2020 Keystone RV Passport. The RV sleeps 8-10 and comes with cookware and dishes, Keurig coffee maker, two TVs and family friendly games.
The owner will deliver for $150 within 150 miles of Canyon, Texas. These Palo Duro area campgrounds are within that range:
Palo Duro Canyon State Park
Palo Duro Canyon State Park offers more than 30 miles of scenic hiking, biking and horseback riding trails. One of the hallmarks of this park is the TEXAS Outdoor Musical held during the summer. This popular family-friendly show features singing, comedy and fireworks.
Amarillo KOA
This campground offers standard KOA amenities, such as a pool, dog park and WiFi. It also has some unique to this area amenities, such as proximity to a runway (great for plane watching) and free limo rides to the nearby Big Texan Restaurant.
Oasis RV Resort Amarillo
This campground offers free cable and WiFi, an in-season pool, dog run, game room, playground and more.Active duty military get the first night free and each additional night is discounted 15 percent.
RVshare Delivery in the Texas Panhandle
This RV sleeps 6 and is listed on RVshare as perfect for smaller families. It has a full size fridge and lots of cabinet space to hold all your food.
Nothing says “I love the glamping life” like plush captain’s chairs. The owner of this RV lives in Amarillo and can deliver. This brand-new RV rents for $115 per night.
Glamping in West Texas
If you want wide open spaces and stargazing at a night sky devoid of light pollution, this is a region to explore, but plan to visit in the winter months when it’s cooler.
During the Texas winter, the West Texas desert temperatures are generally in the 70s F (21 C); it can be almost unbearably hot in the summer, when you can expect daytime temperatures around 100 F (37 C).
Basecamp Terlingua – Terlingua TX
Stargaze all night at Basecamp Terlingua, located near Big Bend National Park. This campground offers lots of options for glamping, but our favorite is the chance to sleep in a bubble with a full view of the night sky.
But the glamping options include offers casitas, teepees and retro trailers. Prices vary widely by type of accommodation, day of the week and season. There are no RV spots here because of the roads and tight parking spots.
You can sleep in a luxury teepee for around $200 per night, but a bubble is going to run you around $400 per night. The bubble comes with a hot tub and it’s incredibly cool…also incredibly popular. They book up several months in advance.
The accommodations have evaporative coolers for the hot summers and space heaters and electric blankets for chilly winter nights. However, the campground stresses, it should still be thought of as “glamping.” The teepees and tents are not sealed or insulated, so expect it to be warm on hot summer days.
El Cosmico – Marfa TX
Marfa is an artsy town with beautiful west Texas desert scenery and night skies. Popular all year round, Marfa and nearby Alpine are great places to visit during winter.
El Cosmico in Marfa offers lots of choices for the best glamping in Texas. Here you’ll find yurts, teepees, retro airstream trailers and safari tents. The self-camping here is decidedly not glamping — it’s traditional tent camping. There are lots of fun things to do near Marfa with kids.
SheBuysTravel Tip: If you’re planning to glamp outside Big Bend National Park and explore inside the park, check to see where your accommodations are in relation to the park entrances. Your drive time to the park entrance might be an unpleasant surprise.
Glamping West Texas Style in an RV
Most owners who list their RV for delivery on RVshare offer delivery within a certain area — most commonly, 150 miles or less — for a flat fee. Then there is an additional per-mile charge.
This RV owner will deliver within a 1,000-mile radius. The fee is $150 round trip for the first 100 miles, then $2/mile. That mileage range would include the two national parks in West Texas, Big Bend and Guadalupe Mountains.
Where to Glamp in West Texas
In addition to the state’s two National Parks, West Texas is home to several Texas state parks that offer camping. Here are just a few – this area attracts campers and outdoor lovers of all types so there are a ton of options.
However, read the fine print. While there are many beautiful places to put an RV; not all of them are going to offer hookups that make it glamorous.
These three campgrounds have sites with electric hook-ups where you can have an RV delivered and set up:
Balmorhea State Park
The world’s largest spring fed swimming pool – need I say more? Balmorhea State Park is definitely remote but this pool alone makes it worth the drive. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving in this pool.
This park also offers outdoor sports courts, a playground, and a Junior Ranger program.
Davis Mountains State Park
Davis Mountains State Park is in the best location for exploring everything the surrounding area has to offer: an observatory located on one of the highest elevation points in Texas. You can attend a star party, visit a historic frontier fort and hike miles of trails.
The state park is just within the 150-mile delivery limit for the owner of this 2006 Fleetwood RV Excursion 39V that sleeps 6.
