The Joy of Traveling Grandparents
There’s something special about the relationship between grandparents and grandkids. Our Traveling Grandmoms Granddads (whether you call us Nonna, Abuelo, Bubbe or Ter-Ber!) know that traveling with grandkids can take that relationship to a level far beyond daily caregiving, video chats, phone calls and Facetime.
Yes, it can be nice for adult children to have Nana and Papa along to provide child care so Mom and Dad can get a night to themselves on the family vacation. But grandparenting is about much more than babysitting young children.
Whether the grandbabies are young kids or adult grandchildren or something in between, the role of grandparents (and great-grandparents and step-grandparents) in a kid’s life is so important. Whether you’re traveling with all of your extended family members or it’s a skip-gen trip with just you and your grandchild, this kind of family travel is so much more fun than the childrearing demands we had raising our own children!
Grandparenting Fun
This section on SheBuysTravel focuses on the positive effects of a multigenerational family vacation. Some of them will be planned (maybe even paid for) by the grandparents. Others will be family vacations our children plan to include the in-laws — with or without our financial assistance. But all of the trips, from urban adventures in New York to camping in a national park to bucket list trips to Africa, help cement that already close relationship.
This section on SheBuysTravel will help you figure out whether to travel with your extended family, offers tips on traveling with older adults and embraces the richness of grandparenthood.
