La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa, Montgomery, Texas, is a haven for kids and adults alike. An expansive resort on the edge of Lake Conroe, La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa offers plenty of activities and amenities to entertain both the young and the older visitor.

The Details
La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa is located an hour north of Houston, Texas, in a town called Montgomery. It’s easy to reach the resort via car, and there’s ample space for parking, whether valet or self park.
The resort sits on the shores of Lake Conroe and offers plenty of space for playing and enjoying outdoor activities to your heart’s content; including a waterpark, golf course, spa and beach.
The resort offers various types of lodging from typical hotel rooms to villas right on the lake’s edge, accommodating even larger families. You can even buy a day pass to the waterpark and a first floor room if you’re local or just want an outing for the day.
The Hotel
The hotel is laid out in a way that gives each activity and amenity its own space, which means they are minimally crowded. In the main tower are hotel-style suites, a piano bar which plays beautiful music throughout the evening heard in the lobby areas, a gift shop with your last minute snacks and necessities you may have forgotten and a breakfast and snacks cafe which delicious sandwiches, yogurt fruit cups, coffee and most importantly, ice cream. Outside the main tower is the water park, beach and lake access. The water park is AMAZING, and we spent a few hours every day enjoying it. Extending further out into the property are the villas, kids club, golf course, spa, meeting rooms and more restaurants–9 in all. After all of that eating and drinking, you’ll be thankful for all the activities offered. It’s a great property for walking and earning your next meal or spa treatment!
When we visited (July 4th week, 2015), the hotel was bustling with visitors, local and out of town, getting incredibly busy on July 4th. While most areas were well staffed, there were times when the guest services phone wasn’t answered, check-in was slow and cleaning services were delayed into the early evening. However, the staff were courteous and seemed to be working hard to keep up with the fluctuating crowds.
The Rooms
We stayed in the Lakeview Suites located on the upper floors of the main tower. Talk about an amazing view during sunset! I’m gad we had this option and would recommend it for the sole purpose of watching that sunset and having a view of the entire resort. I could even sit on the balcony when my husband and kids went to the waterpark and watch them from above. The suite included a two double bed bedroom with a flat screen TV , and an expansive bathroom including double sinks and a walk-in shower. In the living room area, we were supplied with a wet bar area, including a mini fridge which we stocked up from the local Walmart, a desk and a lounge area with a flat screen TV.
The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were soft. While the pillows were a bit too soft, I’m sure they would have accommodated a request for firmer ones had we asked, as they were quick to deliver extra blankets for my cold sensitive kids. We were able to put two children in one bed, my husband and I in the other bed, and my son enjoyed sleeping on the couch in the living room, all to himself. The kids even thought of having a big sleepover together in the living room as there is a lot of room to spare. Having a TV in the living room and the bedroom with plenty of channels, provided some relaxation and unwinding at the end of a long day in the sun.
Amenities
We thoroughly enjoyed just about every one of the activities. Of course the first thing any kid, or adult for that matter, will want to do is dive into the waterpark. With a lazy river, giant tunnel slides, a pool with infinity pool inside and a splash park for younger ones, this was on our agenda, daily. Grab your seat in the shade quickly though, as sun shades are limited.
After a morning spent at the waterpark, tummies are hungry. There’s plenty of options on site, from snacks to formal and even in-room dining. I’ll caution you though, prices are steep, and when you add on tax and gratuity, your meal will cost a pretty penny. I’d suggest paying as you go so you’re not surprised with a large bill that you lost track of at the end. Or you can head into town, a quick 10 minute drive away, where there are many local options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Upon check-in, you’re given a weekly schedule of events for the family and kids, including things like hula hoop contests, nightly s’mores over the fire pit (highly recommended and so much fun), beach volleyball, golf tournaments, poolside trivia and more.
Our kids enjoyed Adventure Pointe, a place for kids 11 and under to play Wii, watch movies, play in the ball pit or enjoy some arts and crafts. There’s an outdoor area with a climbing structure as well. This is not a typical kids club where you can drop your kids off, however, so be prepared to stay with them during playtime.
While the kids and I were playing, my husband enjoyed a round of golf on the stunning lakeside course. He loved the design and the beauty, finding it quite challenging in some areas. Overall, he was pleased he had a chance to try it out and would tell other gofers to give it a go.
When Dad took over watching the kids, I indulged in the luxurious spa. I was treated to a glass of wine as I unwound before my one-hour massage. The facilities were so tranquil, using earth tones and water features for complete serenity. I then scheduled my daughters into a princess spa package in which they were treated to masks, manicures and pedicures and a hair accent of either a colored hair piece or hair chalk. They loved every minute of feeling like mommy does on her spa days.
Need more? There’s a miniature golf course too! Featuring 18 holes, the miniature golf course provided lots of laughs and giggles from all of us. The nice part is that it’s open all day and night. The clubs, balls and scorecards are kept open and available as a self-serve.
La Torretta also offers standup paddle boarding and kayaking at its beach, tennis courts right next to the miniature golf course and a fitness center, although we didn’t try any of that. Family reunions seem to be a regular thing here, as well as a meeting point for various businesses and organization meeting there for team building activities.
All in all, we stayed six nights at the La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa; it was the perfect amount of time for us to truly enjoy everything the resort has to offer. We filed it under our “glamping” experience as we got to do all the things we’d find at a campsite, but with the luxurious extras someone like me really appreciates.
