One of the joys of RV camping is being outdoors with the possibility of seeing wildlife, including bald eagles. Here’s an easy dessert kids can make while RV’ing in honor of our national bird.
- Purchase enough Twinkies so there is one for each person on the camping trip. (Aren’t you glad Twinkies are still being sold?)
- Freeze the Twinkies for an hour or so. (This makes them easier to frost.)
- Cut about 1 inch off bottom of Twinkie to help it stand upright.
- Have kids spread vanilla frosting over Twinkie and then roll in flaked coconut for “feathers”.
- Add a ring of raisins at base of your eagle’s head.
- Attach mini-chocolate chips or raisins with a dab of frosting for the eyes.
- Insert a cashew into the Twinkie for the beak.
- Marvel at the edible masterpiece you just created!
Yes, I know this is a high-sugar dessert! Make sure to serve plenty of carrot sticks and apple slices for other snacks and then it all balances out!
