What could be better than a day at an amusement park riding roller coasters? How about a day that includes huge water slides too? Six Flags Over Georgia, located just east of downtown Atlanta, has the traditional thrill rides, but also includes Six Flags Over Georgia Hurricane Harbor Water Park with a 38,000 square foot wave pool that creates four foot waves in eight different patterns; three water slides that send guests through 180- and 360-degree turns either as single or double riders; a one-acre children’s water playground with six water slides and multiple water buckets that dump about 2,000 gallons of water. My nine-year-old son’s favorite, however, is Tsunami Surge, a hybrid zero-gravity slide that sends riders plunging down five stories.
Six Flags Over Georgia Hurricane Harbor Water Park: Cabanas
Six Flags guests could spend an entire day at Hurricane Harbor; I know we pretty much did, relaxing in one of the 11 cabanas. It was nice to get out of the sun and have a locker to put all our stuff, as well as a mini-fridge for drinks. It was also nice to have food service so we didn’t have to worry about finding a table during the busy lunch rush. The beach area in front of the cabanas is private as well, so if you have little ones, it’s a safe place for them to play in the zero entry water with fewer older kids running in and out.
Tips for Great Day at Six Flags Over Georgia Hurricane Harbor Water Park
Go early. Most people wait for water attractions until mid-day when they’re hot. Go in the morning and you’ll avoid some of the crowds.
Location. Location. Hurricane Harbor is located in the back of the theme park. When you enter, go right at every fork and you’ll see it.
Bring what you need. Although shops in Hurricane Harbor sell everything you need, from bathing suits and towels to sunscreen and flip flops, it’s much cheaper to bring these items with you. If you don’t have a cabana, you can store valuables in a locker located within the park.
Go single or double on Bonzai Pipelines: There are three tubes on the Bonzai Pipelines. My boys swear the purple is faster, but that’s not been scientifically proven. We do know that you can grab a single tube or double tube to ride down any of the pipelines.
Know the height restrictions: Nothing is worse than getting a child all excited to do something only to find out they don’t measure up. Guests for Tsunami Surge must be 48″ to ride. For Bonzai Pipelines, it’s 42″. Children must be at least 36″ to play at Paradise Island unless they are accompanied by an adult.
It’s free, sort of. My husband loves the Six Flags ad campaign for Hurricane Harbor – Free Water Park. The fine print? It’s free with your standard admission to Six Flags Over Georgia. Atlantans know you can always find discount tickets to Six Flags Over Georgia, usually at grocery chains like Publix or Kroger. Coca-Cola usually has special cans during summertime that offer discounts as well. You can try your hand at winning tickets from a variety of Six Flags sponsors listed on their website.
