Planning on visiting geothermal pools in Iceland? Of course what comes to mind is the Blue Lagoon. But wait! Maybe there is new star on the horizon. Newly-built GeoSea Geothermal Pool could be a strong contender to beat The Blue Lagoon. Located along attraction-packed Diamond Circle route in town of Husavik, whale watching capital of Iceland, this spa delivers on beauty beyond description. Geothermal infinity pool right on the North Atlantic Ocean sounds pretty amazing. This is where you will find a relaxation for your body and souls and a feast to your eyes.

Visiting GeoSea: Essential Guide to Iceland’s New Geothermal Pool

Visiting geothermal pools in Iceland tops the list of activities for visitors and locals alike. But I have a confession to make. I spent nine days in Iceland and I did not see the Blue Lagoon!

I know, sounds like a sin. Many consider it one of the major attractions of Iceland. On the other hand, many think it is overcrowded, overrated, and a tourist trap. This is why, when the group I traveled with did not express any desire to visit the baths, I went with the flow. I thought I’d find something less touristy but equally exciting, and was I right! Visiting GeoSea Geothermal Pools in Iceland topped all my experiences during the trip.

Visiting GeoSea Geothermal Pool – Where Have You Been All My Life?

Between eight of us friends traveling together, we had a broad knowledge of Iceland’s major attractions. Nowhere in our research had we stumbled upon this magnificent place. Why? Because it opened at the end of August and we visited at the beginning of September. The news did not hit the internet yet, and it still has not as I am writing about it.

How Did I Learn about GeoSea?

Pure luck. It started with chatting in Polish (my native language) with a nice receptionist at Fosshotel in Husavik. She recommended GeoSea and I jumped at the idea. When I saw the brochure, I knew I had to visit. I convinced one of my friends to come along and we both loved it.

Why is GeoSea Special?

Here is the answer, taken right from the GeoSea website: “In the GeoSea sea baths, you enjoy nature in a unique way. The heat in the earth’s woods ensures that the sea in the baths is warm and good, and the mineral-like water is touching the skin. While the warm sea performs its miracle, you enjoy a view of the mountain range in the west, the Skjálfandaflói below the cliffs and the North Arctic Ocean at the horizon.”

Can it get any better than what is said above? Yes, it can! Come for the sunset and you will get a divine experience. The warmth of the water and rays of light on the horizon will make you forget about all the worries in the world. It is just pure beauty and peace, and yes happiness! If that doesn’t do it for you, you can get some help with a beer or wine available at the bar.

What Should I Know about the Facilities When Visiting GeoSea Geothermal Pool in Iceland?

Well, they’re definitely challenging at first, because everything is very modern and computerized. You will need to figure out how things work, but once you understand the process, you will quickly realize that all of it makes sense according to the rules of ergonomics. Iceland, in general, is very clean, but GeoSea feels almost sterile, which is a good thing for a public place of this sort.

You can get food here too. Nothing sophisticated, but good enough to satisfy your hunger. Visiting thermal pools in Iceland is often combined with drinking adult beverages, so there is a bar on the site. You can take your drink to the pool. The interior design could use more character, but this is Iceland, things here are simple, designed to be used not to impress. Truthfully, the whole place is about being outside, so not a big deal.

GeoSea Opening Hours

Visiting geothermal pools in Iceland after a day of hiking sounds wonderful. The pools are open from 9 a.m. to midnight May 1st for September 30th and from noon to 10 p.m. during the rest of the year. I love the fact that the pools are open way into the night when people are seeking relaxation after a day of sightseeing or work.

I love people-watching during my travels and GeoSea delivered that for me. This is where, for the first time during my visit to Iceland, I finally met the locals. Entire families were there, even little kids. After soaking, children put their pajamas on and probably went straight to bed, relaxed and happy.

Visiting geothermal pools in Iceland is a way of life. You should try it too! Start with the best - newly open GeoSea Geothermal Pool. You will love it! #geosea #geothermalpoolsiceland

Are There Any Other Attractions Close to GeoSea Thermal Pool?

GeoSea Thermal Pool is located in Husavik, on the north shore of the country. The town is famous for whale watching tours. Visiting geothermal pools in Iceland is a great thing to do, but it is a night activity. During the day, many attractions await along The Diamond Circle – 250 km long route that surrounds many of the country’s most amazing natural attractions.

I really liked Husavik, home to one of the most beautiful churches in Iceland. I also enjoyed a little harbor and great views of the ocean. You can also take a nice stroll along the water, but stay on the sidewalk! Otherwise, you may end up holding for your life on a cliff that only looks rocky, but in reality, it is muddy and extremely dangerous to climb. As you can guess, I am speaking from experience.
