It would make perfect sense that a holiday-themed amusement park would have good tasting food, right? Imagine if all of your favorite treats from all of the different US holidays were somehow brought together into one park. Turkey for Thanksgiving, blue ice cream for the 4th of July and hot cocoa with Santa Claus? That is close to what we found at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana. Here are some of the best things to eat at Holiday World.
Holiday World | Santa Claus, Indiana
Holiday World is exactly as the name implies. Located in Santa Claus, Indiana, this amusement park and water park combo invite guests to experience four popular US holidays via different themed sections of the park.
Imagine with me for a moment how fun it would be to enter the Thanksgiving section and find a ride that looks like a turkey. Or how about heading over to Halloween and taking a spooky turn on the HalloSwings? Ready for the 4th? Holiday World has that one too with appropriately coordinated rides and attractions. And let’s not forget about Christmas, it is the section of the park that jump-started the whole experience back in 1954.
After visiting the park, I can say that Holiday World truly offers a little something for everyone. There were bigger roller coasters like the Raven and the Thunderbird for the serious ride enthusiasts. Plus, smaller, more family-friendly rides for those who like to take things a little bit slower.
To my surprise, a few rides even tugged at the heartstrings of the vintage loving guests like me. For instance, I experienced the Firecracker, a retro rollercoaster from 1972 that was forgotten after its first two amusement park homes closed. The story I heard says that it was found in a field with a serious need for restoration. Holiday World stepped up and gave it the attention it deserved.
In the end, however, through the twinkling lights, happy people, and holiday entertainment, what really got to me at this park was the food. Really though, would it be like a real holiday otherwise?
6 Foods To Put On Your Holiday World To-Do List
From the moment I walked into the park, the food signs begged for my attention. I simply adored how each of the foods coordinated with the section of the park they were in. Want turkey? Head to Thanksgiving. Although, if you really want to tempt your taste buds or get the biggest bang for your buck, check out our top 6 to-do food choices.
How many of these have you tried?
1. Fudge from Mrs. Klaus’ Kitchen | Christmas
Fudge and Christmas go hand in hand, right? At Holiday World, the fudge concoctions take it over the top with unique flavors which probably account for much of the treats popularity.
Seriously, have you ever tried root beer fudge? How about bubblegum?
2. Red and Blue Ice Cream from Udderly Blue Ice Cream | 4th of July
Being huge fans of ice cream we arrived on good word that the blue and red ice cream cones are a must when visiting Holiday World. Just to let you know, we concur. They are pretty amazing with a flavor that the kids said resembled bubble gum and blueberry. However, my taste buds were picking up more of a cotton candy flavor. Since we simply can’t agree on the flavor, I guess you’ll have to be the judge.
3. Fried Reese’s from the Funnel Cake Factory | 4th of July
Have you ever had fried Reese’s? This was our first experience with the unique concoction but not the last. Coming from someone who adores the combination of chocolate and peanut butter, this treat comes deep fried in batter and then sprinkled with powdered sugar. It’s a melt in your mouth gooey mess of perfection. Just don’t forget the napkins!
4. Frozen Hot Chocolate with Santa at Mrs. Klaus’ Kitchen | Christmas
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a cup of hot cocoa. Since we visited Holiday World in June, we opted for the frozen version and it did not disappoint. Topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, this treat from Mrs. Klaus’ Kitchen we found to be super rich in flavor. Actually, it was one of the best frozen hot chocolates I’ve ever had.
Before you leave Mrs. Klaus’ Kitchen, be sure to say hi to Santa Claus. He makes scheduled appearances at this location and loves to sit for photos.
5. Pizza from Kringle’s Cafe | Christmas
As lunch rolled around, we searched for something a bit heartier. As we perused the options, the best bang for the buck seemed to be a full pizza at Kringles Cafe. For a little over $30, my family of four was able to fill up on our choice of a whole pizza, 8 breadsticks, and 4 dipping sauces.
Bonus: The drinks are free!
You heard me right, the drinks at Holiday World are free. Not just at Kringles Cafe but throughout the entire park. Simply walk up to any of the pop station buildings, grab a cup, fill it up, and go.
6. Dole Whip from Bahari Snacks | Splashin Safari
Holiday World has Dole Whips! To confirm the rumors, we found them from Bahari Snacks in the Splashin Safari waterpark area. After spending some time riding the numerous water slides and climbing over Safari Sam’s Splashland, we couldn’t think of anything else we’d rather have. In case you haven’t yet experienced the glory that is the Dole Whip, think of it as a pineapple flavored ice cream. Does that even do it justice?
I’d love to hear all of your thoughts about the treats listed in the comments below. Which ones have you tried? Which ones would you like to try?
