Cozy Stays in CT

There’s something undeniably dreamy about a snowy winter escape. As a lifelong Connecticut local, I’ve made it a point to explore the most charming towns, quaint B&Bs and boutique hotels across the state. These spots are perfect for couples seeking a quintessential New England weekend that makes winter feel magical and far less dreary.

To help you book the romantic, cold-weather Connecticut getaway of your dreams, I’ve rounded up five of my absolute favorite stays. Cozy dog-friendly cabins, fireplace-lit cafés, aprés ski charcuterie spreads and decadent chocolate shops serving hot cocoa topped with oversized marshmallows await.

So pack your winter boots and fluffy hats and grab your significant other, because it’s time to hit the road!

1. Kent Collection, Kent, Connecticut

Kent Collection is one of my favorite winter retreats for a guaranteed cozy stay. The Collection features an assortment of luxury boutique lodging in the heart of downtown Kent, including The Firefly Inn (inspired by “Gilmore Girls“), The Victorian, and The Garden Cottages.

The Cottages include The Bunk House, The Little House and The Train Car (a refurbished 1800s baggage car). They’re steps away from New England-shingled boutiques, eateries and cafés. Must-visits include 45 on Main, which serves “luxury” hot chocolate in flavors like gingerbread, toasted marshmallow, white lavender and Nutella.

However, you may simply want to spend a full day curling up by the fireplace with your partner, a good book and some fine cabernet, charcuterie and gourmet treats from 109 Cheese & Wine.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Grab your partner and furry friend(s), because The Bunk House and The Little House are pet-friendly. Have a sweet pup-cation as I did — grab a coffee and cinnamon roll at Wilson’s by High Watch before heading to Kent Falls for a hike. At night, kick back by the Cottages’ outdoor fire pits. Your pup will love it.

2. The Litchfield Inn (Litchfield)

The Litchfield Inn feels like a Nancy Meyers film brought to life, with cozy fireplace nooks, candle-lit corners bursting with board games and plush flannel blankets for curling up with your partner. Another notable mention? Homemade chocolate chip cookies are served daily, alongside warm mugs of coffee and tea.

There’s much relaxation to be had at the inn, but downtown Litchfield is only a few minutes away. Grab a maple waffle latte from Espresso 59 before strolling the town’s quaint boutiques like Milton Market and Oliphant Design.

Don’t leave your weekend getaway without grabbing a jug of homemade eggnog from Arethusa Farm!

SheBuysTravel Tip: Book one of the inn’s thoughtfully designed bespoke rooms, like the cozy “Cottage” with a clawfoot tub, or the “Cornwall,” inspired by the beautifully rustic covered bridge that stretches over the Housatonic River.

3. Lost Fox Inn (Litchfield)

Lost Fox Inn is a historic 1740s tavern that was transformed into a vintage-farmhouse boutique hotel. Crackling fireplaces, freestanding soaking tubs and a lively onsite tavern and restaurant with seasonally-inspired dishes are just right for a romantic weekend away. Breakfast is included for guests to savor homemade biscuits, frittata, crispy bacon, meats, cheeses and fresh juice.

Cozy up in the inn’s library with a glass of cabernet and a good read, or play a round of pool. If you time your stay just right, Lost Fox hosts fun events like tarot card readings, themed dinners and of course, there are always happy hour specials.

SheBuysTravel Tip: When venturing into town, check out Petraroia Deli for lunch. Order the “fried artichoke” baguette with artichokes, prosciutto, mascarpone cheese, arugula, and apple cider and lemon vinaigrette. You’ll need your appetite before heading to the White Memorial Boardwalk trail for a wintery hike.

4. The Delamar (Southport)

The Delamar is a classic New England stay that instantly makes you and your partner feel at home, starting with a glass of bubbly upon arrival. Book one of the hotel’s charming fireplace rooms, or stay a while in a spacious suite, complete with breakfast nooks or eat-in kitchens, gas hearths and plenty of room to stretch out and get cozy.

During your getaway, head into downtown Southport for a quaint stroll, and be sure to pick up a caramel cinnamon roll or chocolate croissant from G Café. On mild days, ride the hotel’s complimentary bikes to Southport Beach, or spend a relaxing afternoon at the Delamar’s spa, where you can indulge in a couple’s balancing stone massage.

SheBuysTravel Tip: The hotel’s onsite Artisan restaurant is a must-book in Southport, serving delightful dishes like ricotta gnocchi with perigord truffle and crispy duck breast with whipped carrot-rutabaga. After dinner, reserve a cozy outdoor fire pit for s’mores, an artisanal cheese plate, and a fine bottle of wine.

5. The Spa at Norwich Inn (Norwich)

The Spa at Norwich Inn is perfect for couples who need a rejuvenating winter reset. This destination spa resort is home to 27 treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, pools, a juice bar and more.

Cuddle up in a plush bathrobe before heading to the spa to enjoy the amenities. You and your partner will love the available treatments, including a HydroMassage, Sea Foam Body Smoothie, Island Bliss Ritual, Glass-Like Glow LED Facial and even Tarot readings.

At night, head to the Norwich Inn’s signature restaurant, Kensington’s, or Ascot’s Pub for a cozy, laidback vibe, live entertainment, a hot-pickle burger and a cinnamon spritz—or two.

SheBuysTravel Tip: The best part of this pampering stay? It’s completely acceptable to wear your bathrobe throughout the resort—even in the pub!
