The Semiahmoo Resort is part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham and is the epitome of a Pacific Northwest resort. It is located on the Semiahmoo Spit and is surrounded by water on three sides. It is at the site of an old Alaska Packers Association cannery and many of the old buildings are incorporated into the resort.

It is a full service resort with a spa, golf course, and luxe amenities. The full service Semiahmoo Marina (not affiliated with the resort) is within walking distance.

I was hosted at the resort during my press trip with Visit Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Why Couples Love the Semiahmoo Resort

The best time to visit the Semiahmoo Resort for a couples getaway is in the late fall and winter months. The chilly weather is the perfect time to snuggle up with your loved one.  Avoid the summer months and family holidays as it is also a great family vacation resort. Romantic touches include:

  • Cozy seating and multiple fireplaces throughout the public spaces
  • Hot tub and heated outdoor pool
  • Spa with treatment rooms for couples and in-room spa treatment kits(fee)
  • Specialty Wine Dinners
  • NIghtly bonfires
  • Walks on the beach

Accommodations at the Semiahmoo Resort

There are 196 guest rooms and suites at the resort. I stayed in the Water View Patio room which was more like a mini suite with a separate seating area and outdoor patio. Water view rooms I think have the best views. The decor of the room is subtle and doesn’t take away from the beautiful, natural setting of the resort.

For the ultimate pet-friendly, couple getaway book the Point Roberts Suite. This corner suite has walkout access to the beach lawn and views of Semiahmoo Bay as well as a fireplace.

SheBuys Travel Tip: If you book a courtside room, ask for a higher floor for better views.

Dining at Semiahmoo

Holidays offer special dining events and check the experience calendar for their popular wine dinners. The company is committed to sourcing local as much as possible and using vendors who use fair-trade practices. Ingredients come from small local Pacific Northwest ranchers, fishermen, and farmers.

  • Packers Kitchen + Bar
  • Great Blue Heron Grill (located at the golf club)
  • Seaview Cafe
  • Snacks, wine, and beer, for purchase next to the front desk

The towns of Birch Bay and Blaine have a variety of restaurants.

Semiahmoo Resort feels isolated due to its location on Semiahmoo Spit but there are quite a few things to do nearby.

  • The Alaska Packers Association Museum (APA Museum) is located on the spit and shares the history of the area.
  • Semiahmoo Park offers paved walking trail, picnic areas, and the APA museum
  • Take a day trip to Point Roberts through two border crossings
  • The Peace Arch State Park  is located on the border between the United States and Canada.
