A Cruise Experience Like No Other
When Celebrity Cruises’ newest Edge ship, Xcel, set sail on its maiden cruise, I marveled at the monkey sculpture, counted the hours to the first meal and toasted to a vacation experience like no other. Amongst sparkling grandeur, I found the hidden gems that make this cruise ship excellent.
Having traveled on many cruise ships, I explore beyond the new, hyped or otherwise promoted moments that fill every corner of people’s feeds. The quiet, sometimes secluded, spaces offer those true cruise ship escapes. Phone alerts silenced; relaxation mode engaged.
On Celebrity Xcel, these hidden gems offered the diversion that I craved. From romantic interludes with my husband to moments of personal reflection, my two days on board created excellent memories.

The Bazaar’s Vibrant Display Unleashes Inner Creativity

A new space on Xcel aft, The Bazaar transforms depending on the ship’s location. From calming blues on Aqua days to bold Carnival-inspired displays, it is more than the décor that had me camping out with my meal from Spice Café.
The space invites contemplation, relaxation and unfettered diversion.
- Themed activities: A transforming space, Celebrity Cruises invites local artisans to showcase crafts associated with a particular locale. Also, specialty cocktails highlight local flavors.
- Thoughtful immersion: From the video walls to the welcoming scents, the little details made me feel transported to a new locale every time I entered.
- Hidden gem: Daytime performances with a cocktail in hand are the perfect way to unwind after an excursion.
SheBuysTravel Tip: The Bazaar’s exuberant nighttime shows are best enjoyed at a table because bar patrons feel like they are part of the performance.
The Spa Rejuvenates and Relaxes with All the Elements

While just staring at endless water soothes me, Xcel’s Spa epitomizes relaxation. Although I enjoyed an amazing deep tissue massage that released every tight knot, the space, in its entirety, is the place where I want to spend a sea day.
- Vitamin D Deck: While the main pool exalts a party atmosphere, the Vitamin D Deck exudes serenity. Although the space is smaller, it epitomizes a members-only vibe. It is the ultimate behind-the-velvet-rope experience.
- Hydra Room: A new space for the Xcel, the water experience rejuvenates the body, mind and soul after a long night.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Since a day pass can be pricey, consider booking an AquaClass room, which includes access to the SEA Therma Suite, for people who prioritize daily spa access.
Rooftop Garden Offers a Quiet Moment of Contemplation

While Bora’s brunch brings a taste of Mediterranean life, the Rooftop Garden is equally enticing at golden hour. Instead of trying to find a coveted spot at the Sunset Bar, a cozy table called to me. This little spot became my space whenever I needed a moment outside to pause.
- Grab a Drink at Sunset Bar: Just steps away, take a drink to go and head back to one of the cozy couches to watch the waves.
- Go Early to Bora: A coveted reservation, Bora offers a Bloody Mary Bar for brunch and a spritz bar for dinner. Linger a few more moments before or even after the meal to savor the experience.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Do not be late for a Bora reservation and speak to the hostess early. While the space is protected from the wind, some spots can be directly in the sun.
The Attic Calls to My Playful Side

On a cruise, my whimsical side emerges. Even though some people love to dance the night away, I prefer spirited game play. Since gambling does not tempt me, The Attic is a new space that satisfies my need for a high score.
- Old-School Games Rule: From Donkey Kong to Centipede, the classic video games take center stage. Luckily, no one has to battle younger kids for a space.
- Hit the Links with the Golf Simulator: As a Top Golf fan, the golf simulator makes for a fun diversion on a rainy day.
- Winner Buys a Round: With options like Golden Tee, darts and bumper pool, The Attic is the sophisticated sports bar that I have always wanted.
SheBuysTravel Tip: The Attic is open to watch sports games or is a great people-watching spot for The Club.
Craft Social’s Smoked Old Fashioned Is the Ultimate Customized Cocktail

While I appreciate the showmanship of the Martini Bar, Craft Social satisfies my thirst for bourbon and whiskey. Even though a cold beer refreshes while watching a game, the custom Old Fashioned cocktails showcase Celebrity Cruises’ sophisticated bar program.
The bartenders can happily guide guests through the process. In my case, I prefer to push the flavor boundaries and experiment with every customization. Smokey, sweet, and even a touch savory, every thirst can be quenched.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Celebrity Cruises has a specialty bourbon that is only available on board its ships. Although an extra charge, the Rabbit Hole signature bourbon whiskey is a must-order.
The Hidden Space You Have to Discover

In this social media-driven world, secrets are rarely kept. On Celebrity Cruises Xcel, one space lives in my memories and not in my photo stream. In the case of IYKYK, the most coveted spot onboard is one that guests have to discover for themselves.
Although some people dared to dish the details, the concept of a hidden gem, unsnappable event and special sanctum tempts more than a lavish meal at Le Voyage. Secretive sips and luscious libations deserve to be enjoyed without inhibition. Putting phones in that velvet pouch ensures people stay in the moment and etches a forever memory.
SheBuysTravel Tip: If you know Xcel’s secret, don’t spill the beans; the best hidden gems are the ones that travelers discover for themselves.
