I was traveling with a colleague on a business trip, so the 2 bathroom, two-bedroom suite in Tower 2 at the Club Wyndham Grand Desert gave us the space, privacy and amenities we needed. We had a view of the golf course from the living room and the main public area was below us on the first floor.

Our suite included a stocked and full kitchen, comfy living room with sofa bed, separate dining area, and a washer/dryer.

The washer/dryer was key because I was able to wash my clothes and get rid of the smoke smell I picked up walking through the Las Vegas casinos.

My bedroom had a gigantic whirlpool tub with a window that opened to the king bed. The second bedroom where my colleague stayed had two double beds and a full bath.

It worked great for us and it would work just as well for women on a girlfriends getaway or even with their family. The separate bedrooms offer the privacy you want and the shared spaces make it easy to spend time together when that’s your goal.

Great Location

Club Wyndham Grand Desert close to the Las Vegas, NV, Strip, but far enough away from the lights and buzz of activity e to make it feel more serene.

And, when you want to hit casinos at the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, and MGM Grand, shop the designer stores and eat at great restaurants, it’s all a quick (and free!) shuttle ride away.

The resort is located on Harmon Way, just 3 blocks off of The Strip. For context, it took us about 20 minutes to walk to the Paris Hotel and another 10 minutes to get to Caesars Palace.

I also used Club Wyndham’s free shuttle, driven by a very friendly local. The shuttle runs daily from 9am-9:30pm and makes one stop every 30-45 minutes at the Horseshoe Casino, which is in the center of The Las Vegas Strip.

We were attending a conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and the resort was an easy walk away. I did that daily.

Is it Safe for Women?

One evening, I walked back to the Grand Desert by myself. Afterwards, I regretted that choice (especially after being yelled at by my colleague). It wasn’t late, but it was dark and I was alone – not a good idea in any major city.  Plus, the Uber ride is short and inexpensive, so I have no excuse.

Back at the resort, I definitely felt safe.

The pool area and the elevators require a room key to enter and security officers patrol the resort 24/7. Lifeguards are on duty during pool hours, even during summer when the hours extend to 9pm.

Club Wyndham Grand Desert Resort Amenities

The room fee online is actually the room fee I paid at the Club Wyndham Grand Desert.  There were no additional resort fees tacked on and I still enjoyed many of the same amenities I would expect at a traditional hotel.

More, actually – few suite-style hotels, especially in Las Vegas, offer free parking and no resort fee.

My conference schedule kept me busy so I had little time to experience all of the amenities that Club Wyndham Grand Desert offers. Those include:

  1. No resort fee. I repeat No Resort Fee.
  2. Free parking. I rented a car, so this was a huge bonus for me.
  3. Free Wifi with strong internet access throughout the resort.
  4. Free shuttle that runs between the resort and The Strip daily from 9am-9:30pm.
  5. 3 swimming pools – one for adults 18+, one for families, one open 24 hours, and all heated to 84 degrees
  6. 4 Hot tubs
  7. Private pool cabanas
  8. Kiddie playground
  9. 2 fitness centers
  10.  Spa and dry sauna
  11.  On-site Grand Desert Market in the lobby stocked with snacks and drinks
  12.  Concierge
  13.  Game room & movie theater at the Experience Center in the lobby
  14.  Sports bar, Destination LV
  15.  Starbucks coffee and snack bar at The Coffee Corner, lobby

There is no onsite casino, which was a plus for me. I liked the break from the dinging slot machines, the smell of smoke and the constant buzz of activity.

Housekeeping is not included in the cost of the room. To clean our 2-bedroom, 2-bath suite, the fee would have been $105 plus tax/visit. That service is provided by a third party and arranged through the front desk.

However, you do not need to pay for housekeeping to get fresh towels or have in-room amenities such as shampoo and soap replenished. That is included in the room price and supplies are delivered upon request.

My colleague, SheBuysTravel Writer Breeze Leonard, had this to say:

After staying at the Club Wyndham Desert Blue, I’ll consider it for our next family trip to Vegas. As a mom of three, finding a spot that’s comfortable but still close to the action is important to me. I think this location is the perfect balance. It’s away from The Strip, so we can skip the casino vibes and keep it kid-friendly. Yet, everything we want to do and see is just a shuttle ride away.

The rooms and the staff were great, I loved that there was a small market on-site so that we didn’t have to leave for some basic necessities. If you’re hauling a mini-crowd like mine and need that sweet spot between fun and calm, this is it.

She has made hundreds of appearances on TV and in digital and print media, sharing advice and tips built on decades of travel experiences. Hailing from the hills of Kentucky and taking her story to New York, Los Angeles, and beyond, Kim built an online platform, the original TravelingMom, that has reached millions of moms and empowered them to explore the world with their families. Today, TravelingMom has evolved into SheBuysTravel. Kim has been featured on “News Nation,” “Today,” “Good Morning America” and on numerous satellite media tours. She has contributed travel guidance to outlets including The Washington Post, Good Housekeeping, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal and more. (Read more about Kim’s media appearances here) Her travel mantra is simple: All travel counts. “You don’t have to go far. Leaving your home is travel,” Kim says. “Wherever you go, even just to the next town over, you can learn something new, see someone and something you haven’t seen before. “It’s good for the brain and good for the soul.” An epiphany in early parenthood started Kim on the journey that led to SheBuysTravel. She’d been a fan of a newsletter for women travelers, and she saw an opportunity. “I thought something like that for moms could be extraordinarily helpful,” she said. “I was traveling for work, traveling for fun, and I was looking for support.” That seed grew into the award-winning website TravelingMom, created as a resource for traveling families of all stripes. Today, TravelingMom has evolved into SheBuysTravel, with an expanded mission to serve women travelers at any stage of life. Millions of readers have visited the site for trip planning help, travel secrets, destination information and gear recommendations. What sets SheBuysTravel’s content apart, Kim says, is its foundation in real-world experience. “Our writers and editors have actually gone out there and done this stuff,” she says. “They’ve booked the flights, tried the tour, tested travel clothing, visited that new hot spot to see if it’s worth the hype. It’s all real.” Memorable Adventures A 2022 tour Kim guided to Bhutan was a particularly standout experience. “Bhutan sounds so exotic, of course,” she said. “But the part where my heart just glows and warms is thinking of the people we met – amazing women doing amazing things in Bhutan.” Their ranks included a former police officer whose ventures into food science helped mitigate food insecurity for residents of Bhutan’s highlands. Top Tips Planning for travel can be daunting, Kim acknowledges. “I always say: Go anyway. No trip is going to be perfect. There’s always going to be something you didn’t expect, something that doesn’t go the way you pictured or planned it. And that something is what’s going to make it a great trip.” And on a practical note: “Go early! Getting to the airport or hitting the road just an hour earlier relieves so much stress.” Kim’s Background Kim, a graduate of the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management, holds degrees in finance and entrepreneurship and has deep experience in developing and running businesses. Her previous work includes developing and running communications workshops and overseeing document management for corporations. SheBuysTravel hits a sweet spot where Kim’s two loves of travel and entrepreneurship meet. “The longer I work in this field, I only want to do more,” she says. “I find the travel world so exciting – not just the trips, but the whole online world of travel. There are still so many opportunities.” The World Awaits “The ‘best trip ever’ probably won’t be the same for an empty-nester or mom of three versus a single woman celebrating a bachelorette party with her friends,” Kim says. “We want to keep it real for traveling women, no matter what their age, life stage, where they came from or where they’re going. “We want to inspire women to travel in any shape or form.” In her free time, Kim enjoys visiting her adult kids, creating trips and traveling with her BFFs to explore the world. Her most recent adventures can be found on InstagramFacebook and LinkedIn.
