Heroes and Villains: Why Disney Destiny is the Ultimate Cruise Ship for Movie Fans

When the Disney Destiny sets sail on its maiden voyage on Nov. 20, 2025, it will do something no other Disney Cruise Line ship has done before—pit beloved Disney heroes against infamous Disney villains.

The entire ship will have a heroes and villains theme that is unique only to the Disney Destiny, beginning with a larger-than-life sculpture of Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots on the ship’s stern.

As huge Disney fans and frequent park visitors, my husband and I love that the movies and the parks are just as much fun for adults like us as they are for the kids.

For all the same reasons, we are excited about our inaugural sailing aboard The Disney Destiny next year. Based on my research, here’s what we (and you!) can look forward to!

All New Stage Show Inspired by “Hercules”

  • Location: Walt Disney Theatre
  • Movie inspiration: “Hercules”

Everybody’s favorite Greek gladiator will take the stage in an all-new Broadway-style stage show debuting exclusively on the Disney Destiny called “Disney Hercules.” The show will feature a fresh take on your favorite songs and characters from the hit animated film.

The melodic Muses will be your guides as Hercules battles Hades in the Underworld and journeys to Mount Olympus. I can’t wait to belt out “Go the Distance” with my family.

Watch Favorite Disney Films in Two Movie Theaters

  • Location: Wonderland Cinema and Never Land Cinema
  • Movie inspiration: Various

All Disney Cruise Line ships have theaters that show classic and first-run films spanning Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and more, so my family can get our Disney movie fix without leaving the ship!

Whether we choose to see Simba defeat Scar for the hundredth time or be among the first to see the newest releases, it’s just one more way we can be together and celebrate our love of Disney.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Popcorn is available for purchase outside the theater. Buy a reusable popcorn bucket for discounted refills before each show and bring it home as a souvenir.

A Wild Ride on the AquaMouse

  • Location: Upper pool decks
  • Movie inspiration: Mickey Mouse shorts

My family loves watching the wacky mishaps on Mickey Mouse Shorts Disney+. When you take a ride on the AquaMouse water coaster on Disney Destiny, you can slide right into the middle of Mickey’s madcap adventures.

What’s even more exciting is that Disney Destiny will debut an all-new AquaMouse storyline called “Sing a Silly Song.” My kids love it when my husband and I ride waterslides with them instead of just watching from the bottom, and the AquaMouse is one that we can all enjoy together.

Meet Some of Disney’s Most Villainous Characters

  • Location: Grand Hall, Saga and the surrounding areas
  • Movie inspiration: “The Princess and the Frog,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Loki” and more

The Disney Destiny’s Grand Hall is more than just an atrium where guests enter the ship for their sailing—it is a haven for heroes and villains from across the Disney universe.

You might encounter Loki attempting to take over the ship, Dr. Facilier demonstrating magic tricks or Maleficent flaunting her powers. Sometimes, meeting villains is even more fun than meeting other characters because they can have a bit of mischievous fun.

My kids always love encounters with characters like Jack Sparrow and Captain Hook at the parks, plus they make for some memorable photo opportunities.

Heroic Kids Clubs

  • Movie inspiration: Marvel, Star Wars and more

A Disney cruise provides plenty of opportunities for family togetherness, but there are also spaces just for kids. When we’ve visited all-inclusive resorts or hotels with kids’ clubs, my children usually don’t want to go because they’d rather be with mom and dad.

When I show them videos and photos of Marvel Super Hero Academy, Star Wars: Cargo Bay, Rapunzel’s Art Studio and more, however, they seem so excited I think I’ll have the opposite problem…getting them to leave the kids’ club and spend time with us.

Themed Pubs and Lounges

  • Movie inspiration: “101 Dalmations” and “Doctor Strange”

While my kids enjoy the spaces just for them, my husband and I can retreat to adults-only movie-themed spaces and unwind with a cocktail, mocktail, wine or beer.

De Vil’s piano lounge (just off the Grand Hall) will offer a menu of upscale martinis, cocktails, wine and champagne in an environment befitting Cruella’s flair for the dramatic (and penchant for black, white and red).

The Sanctum, inspired by “Doctor Strange,” will feature a multiverse of mystical artifacts and a spirited drink menu of mocktails, cocktails, coffees and more.

Dinner Theater Experiences Based on “The Lion King” and Marvel Heroes

  • Movie inspiration: “The Lion King” and “Guardians of the Galaxy”

When it’s time to get the whole family back together for dinner, we can sing along with Simba’s inspiring story at Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King, a first-of-its-kind dining experience debuting on the Disney Destiny.

We’ve taken our oldest to see the “The Lion King” stage show and it’s one of my favorites. Being in an environment where we can all see it together—and sing along—might become my new favorite way to experience this classic tale.

And for competitive families like mine, Rocket and Groot from “Guardians of the Galaxy” will host Marvel Universe trivia at the Worlds of Marvel dining experience.

Disney Destiny State Rooms

  • Location: State rooms on decks 2 through 11
  • Movie inspiration: “Fantasia, “Hercules,” “Mulan,” “Brave,” “The Incredibles,” “Raya and the Last Dragon” and “Big Hero 6”

As a huge theme park fan, I love finding fun theming outside of Disney’s theme parks. Similar to some of Disney’s themed hotel rooms, Disney Destiny state rooms will feature decor inspired by various heroes and their fantastical journeys.

The specific theme varies by room, but includes custom artwork behind the bed and on the walls, but you can also look for thematic elements in the hallway, which differ from deck to deck.

SheBuysTravel Tip: If you are interested in staying in a room with a particular theme, ask the reservations agent when you book your cruise.

I might need a royal budget to afford it, but the Disney Destiny will also be home to four royal suites and a Destiny Tower Suite. The royal suites will showcase “Hercules” or “The Incredibles” and the opulent Tower Suite in the ship’s forward funnel will honor “Iron Man.”
