Econolodge at Wanamaker

1518 SW Wanamaker Rd
Topeka, KS 66604

Self-described as offering: “The basics for travelers near Washburn Institute of Technology,” this Econolodge is being perhaps too modest. Because: all that great color! It’s a bold move in their interior refreshment/update. I’d have to try it to believe it. But from afar, it’s a great change-up to all the same-same you find at this hotel price point.

There’s a lot to like about this hotel option in Topeka, especially if you’ll be here a while or if you are traveling with kids. A truly functional kitchen with real fridge can be a game-changer when you have young children, both for the picky eating factor and the saved expense of eating out.

  • All-suites hotel
  • Indoor pool and hot tub

  • Free wifi and hot breakfast
  • Maybe it’s just me, but I’m loving their updated color scheme! Bright and neutral all at the same time.

(785) 271-8862

If you’re looking for a Woodspring Suites in the area, then you’re probably already familiar with its distinct niche: crazy modest prices for fully functional kitchen suite accommodations. If you want a kitchen on hand—and don’t need a lot of ambience—stay here and save a lot of money. This is precisely the kind of place my spouse would like.

  • Offering low, weekly rates, monthly rates, nightly rates and extended stay rates
  • Groups of one-to-four people can choose from several different room layouts, some with sleeper sofas.
  • All rooms include in-room kitchens that are complete with full-sized fridge and freezer, multi-burner stovetop, counter and cupboard space, microwave, and prep sink. Additional kitchen items are available at the front desk.

Ok, so there’s some things missing here: No pool. No free parking ($10 daily fee). No free breakfast. For some people—maybe you—those aren’t deal breakers because of what you do get instead:

  • All-new interior redesign—stunning color combos with matte neutrals and Monet-type accents. I mean, check out those rooms. Does your bedroom look that good? I know mine doesn’t.
  • Top-notch hotel fitness center that actually looks like a gym
  • Real, fresh-made food from onsite restaurant with bar!

  • Free hot breakfast and buffet
  • Nice pool
  • 12 p.m. checkout
