If you’re wondering where Salina is, it’s about 1.5 hours north of Wichita, 30 minutes west of Abilene and 1 hour west of Manhattan (home to Kansas State University). And it’s well worth a stop. After learning more about Salina, I know I’m keen to visit. A few reasons why:

  • Rolling Hills Zoo: Just west of Salina, this zoo and wildlife museum combo has enough attractions to merit a full day of exploration.
  • Kenwood Cove Aquatic Park: If you’re lucky enough to visit Salina in the summer months, don’t miss this enticing waterpark.
  • The Stiefel Theatre and Performing Arts Center: If you love vintage, restored theaters as much as I do, the Stiefel Theatre is not to be missed. Time your visit for a show you’d like to see.
  • Smoky Hill Museum: This kid-oriented, free museum gives you a great indoor activity for everyone.
  • The Land Institute: This celebrated think-tank and outdoor laboratory dedicated to figuring out how we can feed the world and restore the earth’s soils is here in Salina.
  • Cozy Inn Burgers: Because who doesn’t love burgers?
