If your dream getaway includes timeless elegance and the soft glow of romance, the Old Capitol Inn in Jackson, Mississippi, is a destination worth considering. This popular boutique hotel combines vintage charm with modern comforts to establish the perfect backdrop for your love story. My husband and I recently toured the hotel with the on-site manager, who offered a behind-the-scenes look at what makes this inn so special.

While we didn’t stay overnight (I’m a local), friends who have stayed here and wedding couples who adore the venue rave about its cozy ambiance and unique rooms. I had to see these rooms for myself!

When we arrived at the Old Capitol Inn for lunch, the warm, responsive staff put me instantly at ease. Beautiful leaded glass doors lead into the lobby, where the historic charm compelled me to slow down and ease into the relaxation of our lunch date.

If you choose to stay overnight, ask for tips for exploring Jackson or assistance with arrangements for a bottle of wine for a romantic night indoors. After check-in, the gated private parking lot provides a safe, worry-free location for your vehicle. Then, enjoy a sunset cocktail on the open-air rooftop, with Jackson’s skyline as your backdrop.

Discover Rooms with Personality at Old Capitol Inn

The Old Capitol Inn features 24 guest rooms, each designed with a distinctive personality and a touch of Mississippi-inspired charm. Room options include standard guest rooms, the whimsical Elvis Presley Room, the vibrant Shubuta Room and two luxurious Honeymoon Suites, where couples can choose between a king or queen bed.

The inn’s eclectic rooms make it easy to find a space that suits your style and mood. Each room at the Old Capitol Inn has a personality of its own, brought to life by individual designers who have incorporated Mississippi’s culture and history into each space. Some rooms offer serene views of the New Orleans-style garden below. Others overlook the vibrant cityscape.

For a getaway that’s both fun and romantic, why not book the Elvis Presley Room? We stayed in this whimsical time capsule where green walls set the upbeat tone, a plush velvet couch sat ready for cozy conversations, and a life-size cutout of the King of Rock ‘n Roll stood ready for selfies.

Many older inns or renovated accommodations simply do not have enough outlets for my many devices. Not a problem here! There are plenty of electrical outlets plus essentials like an iron, ironing board and a luggage rack. The inn even includes an extra blanket in each room, making it as comfortable as it is charming.

  • Rooms: 24 guest rooms, each one designed with Mississippi-inspired themes.
  • Room Types: Whirlpool Tub/Honeymoon Suite (2 available), Double Bedroom Suite, One Bedroom Suite or the Standard Modern Simplicity Queen Room.
  • Extras: Ample electrical outlets, an iron, an ironing board, a luggage rack and an extra blanket.

The bedroom’s mirrored headboard adds just the right amount of flashy glam without being overbearing. This room, like the living space, invites a closer inspection. The framed memorabilia give the room a quirky vibe, but each piece tells a story about Mississippi native Elvis Presley’s life and music career.

It’s a perfect twist to turn a romantic getaway into a story you’ll share for years.

Dining at the Old Capitol Inn is all about Southern flavors and local charm. The indoor and outdoor seating options provide a delightful variety of dining experiences. Start your day with a complimentary Southern-style breakfast featuring fluffy biscuits, creamy grits, fresh fruit and other local favorites. It’s a cozy, hearty way to fuel up for whatever adventures you have planned for the day.

When lunchtime rolls around, the Old Capitol Inn doesn’t disappoint. One standout dish is a keto green salad topped with tender seared steak, shrimp or chicken as proteins. This fresh and hearty seasonal option of regional ingredients has become my favorite.

Enjoy Even More Amenities at the Old Capitol Inn

Whether it’s a wedding, family reunion or a special celebration, the hotel’s event spaces are elegant and welcoming. The inn’s past as a YWCA refuge for women resonates in its present role as a host for special gatherings. It is a gentle reminder that this building remains a well-grounded space of connection and community, deeply rooted in Jackson’s history.

One of the best parts of staying at the Old Capitol Inn is its prime location in Jackson. Just a short walk from the inn, the Two Mississippi Museums is a deep exploration of Mississippi’s history. Another unique stop within walking distance is the Merci Train, a boxcar France gifted to the United States after WWII. Located behind the Old Capitol Museum, this small but meaningful exhibit reminds visitors of the lasting friendship between the two nations and is a quick, interesting stop for train enthusiasts and history buffs.
