A getaway to the Northwest Louisiana town of Natchitoches (pronounced Nack-A-Tish) delivers an abundance of charm and history served with a side of decadent Creole and Cajun cuisine. Home to Louisiana’s Northwestern State University, Natchitoches welcomes fans of the NSU Demons on autumn weekends to cheer on the team. And during the holiday season, Natchitoches hotels fill up with holiday merrymakers. No matter your reason to visit Natchitoches – and there are plenty – you’ll need a place to stay. Whether you prefer a vacation rental, bed and breakfast, a chain hotel close to the university or a cheap hotel that’s budget-friendly, the places to stay in Natchitoches are numerous, especially for a small town. Let’s find one that works for you.

Steel Magnolias Bed and Breakfast

If you’re a fan of the 1989 classic, Steel Magnolias, starring the all-star cast of Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley Maclaine and Daryl Hannah, this is the place for you. In the movie, this house served as Shelby’s home before she got married. You’ll likely recognize the living room and kitchen where several scenes were filmed.

As a fun touch, the rooms are named for the movie’s characters. I chose Claree’s room – the character played by Olympia Dukakis. Located on the second floor of the house, it was fittingly next to her good friend, Ouiser’s room. You’ll also see rooms named for Shelby and Jack on the same floor. Adelle’s room is upstairs in the attic. A cottage behind the main house bears the name of Dolly Parton’s beauty shop – Truvy’s. Could there be a better girlfriend getaway?

The Steel Magnolias Bed and Breakfast comes with a delicious fresh-cooked breakfast complete with homemade biscuits to complement the inn’s Southern hospitality.

TMOMTip: 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of Steel Magnolias, so be sure to make your reservations early.
