On the turquoise water of the Caribbean, Cancun, Mexico is a top destination in Mexico and perfect for family getaways. My family boarded a flight for Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas, a beachfront hotel made for families. With its authentic hospitality and food, the Fiesta Americana features suite options for families of all sizes (including families with four kids like mine).
For first-time travelers to Mexico, Cancun is in the state of Quintana Roo, and this property is in the hotel zone, closest to Cancun’s international airport. The Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas boasts family fun activities like beautiful swimming pools and a fun kids club with a video game center. Then there’s the delicious Mexican food. We enjoyed an unforgettable stay in Cancun with its unbelievably warm service from check-in to check-out. The warm service made it one of the best Cancun family resorts; however, it’s not an all-inclusive resort. Our only complaint: our stay was too short.
Is Cancun, Mexico Safe?
For travelers to any international destination, it is advised to check out what the U.S. State Department advises. It is the best source of information for Mexican travel.
During our trip, we found Cancun to be totally safe. And it’s not just me saying this. The U.S. State Department considers the Mexican state of Quintana Roo (where Cancun is located) a Level 2 Advisory. This means tourists need to exercise increased caution, especially with cash and jewelry. Though that is true with most urban destinations, travelers need to know who is around them and keep their valuables hidden.
After landing at Cancun International Airport, we traveled to this Cancun hotel with our four kids. The Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas handled the transportation to and from the airport. I recommend this since the traffic between the airport and Cancun’s Hotel Zone can be chaotic with lots of ongoing construction.
We left the resort to wander the tourist shops and see a little more of Cancun. At no time did we feel unsafe. Guests will find the Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas near a modern commercial complex too (a two-minute walk to Starbucks anyone?).
What You Need to Know About the Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas
1. It’s not one of Cancun’s all-inclusive resorts.
One of the unique aspects of this particular Cancun family resort is that it is NOT all-inclusive. You pay as you go for your meals. This makes the nightly rate significantly lower than other hotels in the Cancun area. However, with a family, meals and drinks could add up. I found the breakfast buffet to be a great value; it made sure we weren’t hungry until late in the afternoon.
There is a supermarket in the Hotel Zone within 5 minutes for groceries. With a full kitchen in your suite, you can make several meals there, saving a good amount. Unlike all-inclusive resorts, a la carte pricing means you can control how much you spend. If you want an all-inclusive, the Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun is a few minutes away.
2. These resort rooms can fit any size family or group.
The Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas is a boutique-sized hotel with 179 rooms and one of the most fun family-friendly resorts in Cancun. It is on the upper side of the price range and is much less party-oriented than many other resorts in Cancun’s Hotel Zone.
The resort offers standard rooms as well as 1, 2 and 3 bedroom villas. My family of 6 stayed in the two-bedroom option, and we had plenty of room to spread out. Standard rooms include kitchenettes with microwaves and mini-fridges, and multi-room suites include full kitchens with everything you need to cook and serve food. There are even jacuzzis in the master bathrooms. I adored the authentically Mayan and Caribe decorations, as well as the privacy and comfort our villa offered us.
This Cancun resort gives guests contemporary, air-conditioned family suites with recently updated flat-screen TVs and free wifi. Some rooms offer balconies or terraces with fantastic sea views. Our upgraded suites added a comfortable living room with a pull-out sofa, which came in very handy when my 12-year-old daughter decided she needed her own space.
3. The food is authentically Mexican (but they can make a burger and fries if you want).
There are three restaurants at Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas. La Palapa is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It offers beachside seating under a thatched roof with ocean breezes blowing in. We made sure our kids tried something they had never had each day, but they also ate their weight in french fries, brick-oven pizzas and nachos. The chef, unlike those at many other Cancun family resorts, was more than happy to make anything my family asked for. And it wasn’t just us. I saw him make special surprises and off-menu meals for many guests. The menu has many options too, specializing in Caribbean and regional Mexican food.

For a special evening, visit La Bodega, the newest restaurant at the resort. Prices are high, but the food and service seem balanced. With well-appointed booths, an open kitchen, and an extensive wine list, it is the perfect place for a fancy end to your beach day. We brought the kids, and they were welcome, but this restaurant had more of an adult feel, so you may want to use the babysitting services offered. There is also the Restaurante Mexicano, which serves Mexican fusion cuisine.
This Cancun family hotel also has a bar in the grand lobby with nightlife focused on karaoke and billiards. Look for a swim-up bar adjacent to the pool area and 24-hour room service. For those who want to cook (and save some pesos), a two-story supermarket, Chedraui Select, is a five-minute walk away. Remember, this is not one of Cancun’s all-inclusive resorts. The concierge can point you the right way.
4. Activities are plentiful.
While this is one of the smaller Cancun family resorts, there are so many activities to enjoy. Or not. You decide. The shallow kid’s pool, sweet playground for the little ones, kids’ club, and free laundry make this Cancun resort very family-friendly. It may be missing a waterpark with water slides, but there’s plenty to make the kids happy at the resort.
Mom and Dad aren’t forgotten though. This Cancun resort features a full-service spa and on-site gym. The massage I got there was heavenly. We spent most of our time at the outdoor pool. Fiesta Americana provides guests with a nice beach setup with cabanas, lounge chairs under palapas, and drink and food service. There were beachfront and poolside daily activities and games that we had fun participating in together. I loved that there were on-site water sports, including snorkeling. We went jet skiing for the very first time!

You can leave the hotel to visit Cancun’s waterpark, play some mini golf or hit a real golf course. There’s also a pirate ship attraction nearby. We just didn’t have time!
Bottom Line: Fiesta American Cancun Villas may be the family-friendly resort for you.
Visiting Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas means you get to see the turquoise water with its calm and family-friendly waters and the white sand that surrounds it in person. The best Cancun family resorts make it so that you can have a memorable Mexican family vacation with a Caribbean vibe (and not be forced to pay all-inclusive prices).
