Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, just a few blocks from Grand Central Terminal, Club Wyndham Midtown 45 is taking families back to Christmas in 1999 with its Holiday Rewind Suite. Packed with nostalgic decorations, retro toys and holiday surprises, the suite offers a chance to experience the magic of the holidays before technology like smartphones took over.
Highlights
- Christmas in 1999: The Holiday Rewind Suite brings 1999 back to life, complete with board games, VHS tapes, lava lamps and more.
- Iconic snacks: You’ll find classic snacks from the era, including ingredients for making your own Rice Krispies treats, Fruit by the Foot and even SunnyD.
- Hidden surprises: There are little Easter eggs throughout the suite, including a Club Wyndham-branded virtual pet keychain you can take home with you.
Editor’s note: The writer was hosted.

After you walk in and get acquainted with the suite (and all the Christmas decorations that adorn the floors and walls), you’ll find yourself in the living room with its own TV and VHS player.
- Christmas movies: The media console has Christmas movies on VHS, including Home Alone, The Nightmare Before Christmas and, of course, the Die Hard movies.
- Classic tapes: There are a few other tapes you can insert into the player as well, including the classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
- Old-school setup: The boxy television and VHS player are fully functional, so you can enjoy a movie marathon the way you would have in the ’90s.

Treats Galore, Including Make-Your-Own Rice Krispies Treats

The room is filled with all sorts of treats, including a make-your-own hot chocolate station and a make-your-own Rice Krispies treats station. Here’s what the suite has to offer:
- Dedicated ’90s treats: These include Fruit by the Foot, cheese balls and Dunkaroos.
- Rice Krispies treats: The suite provides a box of Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows and butter, as well as a baking pan and recipe to make your own treats.
- Popcorn and hot chocolate: There’s a separate area with ingredients for hot chocolate, along with accompanying naughty and nice mugs. You’ll also find a popcorn maker, kernels and seasonings for the perfect movie night.
- Drinks: The fridge is packed with SunnyD bottles and Little Hug Fruit Barrels in various flavors.
SheBuysTravel Tip: You can keep the complimentary snacks and drinks you don’t finish. Just don’t take anything else, like the cups or mugs, as those aren’t included in your stay.
A Landline Telephone Where You Can Hear From Mrs. Claus

Right when you enter the Club Wyndham Midtown 45 Holiday Rewind suite, there’s a little table with an old-school acrylic telephone. If you pick it up, you’re in for a surprise.
- Mrs. Claus: The first time I picked up the phone, I heard a radio station jingle introducing Mrs. Claus, who then gave me some sage life advice. I won’t spoil the mystery for you.
- Surprise callers: The Holiday Rewind Hotline also features messages from Santa and a few other surprise callers.
- Static noises: After hearing Mrs. Claus a few times, I picked up the phone again. This time, it produced random static noises, similar to what you’d hear on an old telephone in the ’90s.
SheBuysTravel Tip: This isn’t a functional telephone for making calls, so don’t try dialing reception or the hotel lobby through it. There’s a separate phone for that.
A Magic 8 Ball to Ask Those All-Important Questions and More Games

One of my favorite parts of the room was the board games and ’90s paraphernalia, including a Magic 8 Ball. There’s plenty to do as long as you stay off your devices.
- Board games: You can find Chutes and Ladders, Operation (yes, really), Battleship and more.
- Magic 8 Ball: The living room shelf has the quintessential Magic 8 Ball, where you can ask all your burning questions for mystical answers.
- Bop It!: There’s a Bop It! you can use to play with your family, as well as an Etch A Sketch. All the games are fully functional.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Don’t pack cards or other games like you normally would when traveling with young kids. The suite has something for everyone.
A Diary Complete With Stamp Pens to Jot Down Your Thoughts

The bedroom features its own princess canopy and walls complete with movie posters, fake high school pictures and more. But my favorite part was the diary on the bedside table.
- Pens of all sorts: There are close to 50 pens available to draw or doodle with, including stamp pens and glitter pens.
- Flip through the book: Previous guests have left messages and hidden notes if you’re interested in reading through them.
- Add your own: Leave a little message for future guests to see. Who knows? Maybe it’ll leave a smile on their faces.
Movie Posters and Magazines From the Early 2000s

The bedroom feels like a teenage time capsule, complete with throwback movie posters, magazine cutouts, glow-in-the-dark stars and even a lava lamp.
- Teen magazines: You can find copies of Teen Vogue and other magazines on the media console, desk and in the baskets. P.S. There are even some additional magazines in the bathroom.
- Posters: You’ll find Clueless, Xena: Warrior Princess and even decorations showing hearts with names inside, as well as a to-do list, just like you would in a teenager’s room.
A CD Player to Rock Out to Your Favorite Tunes

Both the living room and bedroom in the Club Wyndham Midtown 45 Holiday Rewind suite have CD players, complete with headphones. There are multiple CDs available, including Frank Sinatra holiday classics and a NOW That’s What I Call Music! compilation.
- CD players: Both rooms have their own players, so you can listen to music without using your phone.
- Music selection: From holiday classics to nostalgic pop hits, there are several CDs to choose from.
- Headphones: Each player comes with headphones, so you can listen to your favorite tunes without disturbing anyone else.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Since these are old-school CD players, you’ll need to swap discs yourself if you want to listen to a different album.
Holiday-Themed Bathroom Decor for the Perfect Shower

Even the bathroom is all decked out, including holiday decorations that make showering an entire experience.
- Ruffled shower curtain: Just like something you’d find in grandma’s bathroom, there’s a faux ruffled shower curtain over the glass shower, complete with snowflake decals on the shower door.
- Magazines: Tons of them right next to the toilet, so your extended bathroom sessions come with reading material.
- Old-school soap dispenser: There’s a Santa-shaped soap dispenser. Even though the soap isn’t scented, the old-school dispenser makes washing your hands all the more fun.
