Oogie Boogie Bash is Disneyland’s Halloween Time event, which returned to the parks in 2021! This after-hours event takes place at Disney California Adventure theme park. These are the insider tips on what to expect at this Hallowen party, including where to purchase tickets and entertainment details. You’ll also get the expert scoop on what to know before taking the kids.
Oogie Boogie Bash Details
Please note: The 2021 Oogie Boogie Bash parties have sold out!
The Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween parties began September 9th, 2021, and will run through October 31st.
Oogie Boogie Bash replaced the Disneyland Resort’s Mickey’s Halloween Party in 2019. This nighttime party is a separate-ticket event that happens on select nights. No theme park reservation is required to attend this Halloween party!
Unlike Mickey’s Halloween Party, which took place at Disneyland, the Oogie Boogie Bash happens in Disney California Adventure park. This means that California Adventure park (including Cars Land) will close early to regular guests. Only those with special event tickets may stay for the party. A similar ticketed event, Disneyland Merriest Nites, will be held in November and December.
Oogie Boogie Bash parties begin officially at 6 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. However with special event party tickets in hand, guests can enter the park three hours earlier. This “mix in” begins at 3 p.m. when guests with Halloween party event tickets may go into the park. Unlike years’ past (when guests could access both parks early), entry is now limited to only California Adventure.
Tickets for Oogie Boogie Bash
All tickets for the 2021 Halloween party have sold out but we have kept the following information for future reference. The special event tickets for Oogie Boogie Bash 2021 range from $114 to $169. Everyone age 3 and up needs a ticket (children aged 2 and under are free).
Tickets can only be purchased online via the Disneyland website or app. Tickets cannot be purchased through third-party retailers. Parking fees are not included in the event ticket price.
For a limited time you can purchase 4-Day/4-Park tickets that allow you to visit each theme park once at an amazing price.
Best to buy Oogie Boogie Bash tickets as soon as possible, as the Disney Halloween parties generally sell out early. In previous years guests of the Disneyland resort hotels could purchase reserved tickets. It doesn’t appear that this feature is available in 2021.

Is Oogie Boogie Bash Good for Kids?
Given that this party is based on an edgier character and movie (Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas), guests might wonder if this Halloween party is kid-friendly. Rest assured! This is Disneyland, where entertainment is intended to be multi-generational.
While there are certain parts of the party geared for particular ages, there’s nothing here that would be inappropriate for younger kids. However, certain elements might be spooky for some kids.
Keep in mind that many little ones will burn out early in the night, missing out on much of the party that takes place after nightfall. You’ll need to weigh your options on whether it’s a good idea to take kids who will likely fall asleep in their strollers.
Activities that are most popular with toddlers and preschoolers (like the trick-or-treating and Mickey’s Trick and Treat Stage show) are busiest in the early hours of the party. Hold off doing these as long as you can. The lines shorten in the later evening hours.
Oogie Boogie Bash “Immersive Treat Trails”
Trick-or-treating has always been a popular part of the Disney Halloween parties and the Oogie Boogie Bash continues the tradition in a new way. Along with the usual treat trails with cauldrons of goodies, there’s the addition of “immersive treat trails” throughout the park.
In 2021, there are 10 total trails, 8 of which are “immersive.” This means they have an interactive villain character. Villains stand at a distance talking to guests as they pass by.
Here’s who you’ll find in the immersive treat trails. Mad Hatter, Oogie Boogie, Evil Queen, Maleficent, and Dr. Facilier have returned to the Disneyland Halloween party. New in 2021 – Sid from Toy Story, Cruella from the newest live action movie and Agatha from WandaVision (appearing within Avengers Campus).
Candy collecting at Oogie Boogie Bash is something every guest can participate in and these trails are not to be missed! The treats are high quality and also include healthier options, like mini bags of fruit and pretzels.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Each guest gets a small treat bag at the gate, though you might want to pack your own if you plan on collecting lots of candy. Disney Halloween parties are notorious for candy-overload!
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail Transforms into Villains Grove
The tall trees and winding walkways of the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail transform into Villains Grove, a walk-through experience. This is intended for all ages but will kids like it? It’s not really scary but anxious kiddos may still be nervous around the villain-inspired scenes.
Sound, lighting and shadows play a part in Villains Grove, which is ideal for taking those Instagram-worthy shots (if you have a camera that takes a decent night time shot).
There’s no candy or characters to be found, so most younger kids won’t have much interest. But it is a cool area for teens and adults looking for unique photo spots. Wait to go until just before closing when the line is shorter.
Oogie Boogie Bash Shows
“Mickey’s Trick & Treat” Stage Show
This interactive stage show takes place inside the Disney Theater in Hollywood Land (where Disney Junior Dance Party is usually held). Kids are guaranteed to see Mickey Mouse and friends dressed up for Halloween with music, dancing and storytelling. It’s the perfect show for younger kiddos, including toddlers and preschoolers.
Earlier shows are guaranteed to be busy. I attended the first showing and it was jam-packed. Consider holding out until later into the evening, if your young kids can stay up. The music is lively and the show is very short (just around 10 minutes). Afterwards kids can collect candy!
SheBuysTravel Tip: Just like during the Disney Junior Dance Party, the Mickey’s Trick & Treat Show offers floor-seating only. This allows little kids freedom of movement to dance during the show but may be uncomfortable for adults.
Two previously offered entertainment options did not return for Oogie Boogie Bash 2021. DescenDANCE is no longer presented. Also “World of Color” Villainous Nighttime Spectacular will not happen this year.
Halloween Party Offers Returning Favorites
Despite the move from Disneyland to California Adventure, Oogie Boogie Bash still features some of the classic Mickey’s Halloween Party favorites:
Character Meet n’ Greets
Usual character meet n’ greets have been altered in the Disney parks in reopening. Expect the same at Oogie Boogie Bash, where characters will pose for photos behind ropes or on stages that maintain social distancing. Touching and autographs will not be permitted.
However you can snap all the photos and take all the selfies you wish! PhotoPass digital photo downloads are included in the price of Halloween party event tickets. PhotoPass photographers are available during the event so definitely take advantage of this included memento.
Greeting characters are popular at Oogie Boogie Bash, similar to Walt Disney World Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. During the Disneyland event, look for Mickey and Minnie together, Cars Land characters in costume, and rarely seen villains.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Wait times for characters will be consistently long, even up to event close. If character greetings are important to you, plan to visit during the show times.
Frightfully Fun Parade
A good mix of Disney characters and villains (including the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow) appear in this fantastic family-friendly parade. Guests can spot Cheshire Cat from Alice In Wonderland, Haunted Mansion Ghosts and more! The long parade route means you don’t have to scout out a seat too early (10-15 minutes should be plenty of time).
If you don’t want to wait in the long lines for character greetings, the Frightfully Fun Parade is an awesome way to see and wave to fan favorites Jack Skellington and Sally!
SheBuysTravel Tip: There are two parade showings, 7:45 and 10 pm. The second showing of the parade will be less busy, if your kids can wait that long.
Oogie Boogie Bash – New for 2021!
Several new features have been added to the 2021 Oogie Boogie Bash.
New Villains
Additional villains have arrived at the Disneyland Oogie Boogie Bash. Guests can see and chat with Sid from Toy Story, the live-action version of Cruella and Agatha from WandaVision. These Disney villains are found within the immersive treat trails.
Oogie Boogie Bash Dining Parade Package
Wine Country Trattoria is the location for a 3-course meal, with access to a special reserved viewing area for the Frightfully Fun Parade that takes place later in the evening.
Booking this dining package can only be done in person. Guests should make an advance dining reservation for Wine Country Trattoria on any night of the Oogie Boogie Bash. When arriving for the restaurant reservation, simply let the host know you would like to upgrade to this dining experience.
Each guest who upgrades to this package receives a Wine Country Trattoria 3-course, prix-fixe dinner that includes a starter, entrée and dessert. Children’s meals come with a popcorn-filled Oogie Boogie popcorn bucket (available to adults for an extra $17 each).
Diners will each receive standing-room access to one of the Frightfully Fun Parade reserved viewing areas. The cost for this meal and experience is $55 for adults and $40 for children ages 3 – 9, plus tax and gratuity (no discounts).
My kids and I participated in this dining experience and found it to be worthwhile. Schedule your dining reservation during the “mix in” time (we had a reservation for 4 pm). The food was delicious and filling, reserved area for the parade was awesome, and the popcorn bucket for kids is a high quality bonus.
Sonoma Terrace Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party
Party guests who purchase the dessert party will receive an exclusive Halloween-themed desserts and beverages. The highlight is reserved seating in front of Sonoma Terrace for Frightfully Fun Parade.
The cost is $84 per Guest (under 2 years old are not charged). This cost is in addition to the full cost of a regular party ticket and advance reservations are required.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Don’t want the extra expense of a dinner or dessert party? The shops and quick service restaurants offer plenty of seasonal snack delights in autumnal or Halloween themes at more reasonable prices.
Must-Know Details for Oogie Boogie Bash
Costume Rules
On a regular park day, only those 14 and under may wear costumes. But during this special Halloween party, both children and adults may wear costumes. They must fall within the Disneyland Resort guidelines, namely not offensive or violent (think kid-friendly). This also means no weapons (except light sabers and plastic swords).
Costumes may not drag on the ground or contain anything sharp or dangerous. Masks may not completely cover the face and eyes must be visible. There are additional guidelines on the Disneyland website so be sure to check the site before putting together your costume.
Rides
As if there’s not enough to do during the Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween party, there are also the rides! All Disney California Adventure rides operate during the party and lines are much shorter than on a regular park day.
This is the perfect opportunity to ride WEBSLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure! No virtual queue required during the Oogie Boogie Bash for this popular new Avengers Campus attraction.
Halloween Offerings with a Regular Park Ticket
Even if you decide not to attend the extra-ticket Oogie Boogie Bash, fall is still in the air at both Disneyland park and Disney’s California Adventure park. There are Halloween decorations galore, ride overlays and, of course, delicious treats!
Guests with a regular park ticket can experience these Halloweentime offerings inside the parks. Halloween at the Disneyland resort begins on September 3rd, 2021 and lasts throughout October 31st.
At Disneyland
The Main Street Pumpkin Festival transforms Disneyland with hundreds of glowing jack-o-lanterns and a huge Mickey pumpkin. The Haunted Mansion Holiday ride overlay lasts through the Halloween season all the way through the New Year.
Guests can meet Jack Skellington and Sally from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. The less-frightening “Fab 5” also sport their Halloween costumes. For entertainment after dark, Halloween Screams, the nighttime fireworks show, takes place on select nights.
At California Adventure
Over at Disney California Adventure, decor is decidedly darker with an Oogie Boogie entryway. The Headless Horseman stands at attention on Buena Vista St. All of Radiator Springs is made over as “Radiator Screams.” Ride overlays include Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark, Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween and Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree.
Radiator Springs vehicles including Lightning McQueen and Mater dress up in their Haul-O-Ween costumes. A Musical Celebration of Coco also returns for Dia de los Muertos in the Plaza de la Familia. At night the park lights up and bats swarm around Carthay Circle’s clock tower.
