When planning the ultimate girls’ wine weekend, the first thing you might do is search “Where to go for a girls’ wine getaway?” and you’ll see Napa Valley, California, followed by other regions around that area. But did you know that there is a delicious wine region tucked away just South of the border in Mexico?

Valle de Guadalupe has over 150 wineries and is known for producing high-quality wines and specializing in “big” reds, earning the region the nickname “Napa Valley of Mexico“. Grape varietals like Nebbiolo, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah thrive in this terroir.

Eight wine loving girlfriends and I packed our bags for a birthday celebration weekend. Here’s our travel guide of favorite wineries, restaurants and places to stay. You’re welcome!

Our Favorite Five Wineries

Vena Cava

Known for its bold architecture and innovative winemaking, Vena Cava is one of Valle de Guadalupe’s most unique wineries. The architecture of the winery uses recycled materials, including old boats for the roof – which helps the winery be as distinctive as its wines. Vena Cava focuses on small-batch, organic wines that showcase the region’s terroir.

I recommend scheduling the Barrel and Tank Tasting experience which allows you to sample wines at different stages of the aging process. El Cielo is a top choice for those wanting to explore the complexity and craftsmanship behind premium Mexican wines.

Xolo Wine

A winery with personality, Xolo Wine embraces a playful and inviting atmosphere, inspired by the beloved Xoloitzcuintli (Xolo) dog breed. The brand’s fun and artistic dog-themed logo adds to the charm, while the winery’s hilltop location offers stunning panoramic views. Beyond the aesthetics, Xolo produces high-quality, expressive wines, making it a great stop for those who appreciate both great wine and a lively, welcoming ambiance.

Vinícola Emevé

Vinícola Emevé is a boutique winery that has earned a reputation for producing refined and balanced wines. Known for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, and Merlot, Emevé is a favorite among red wine lovers. The winery’s focus is on letting the wines take center stage while offering an intimate experience that highlights the artistry and dedication in every bottle.
