I recently had the opportunity to travel to Universal Orlando Resort with my sister for a girls’ weekend to kick off the holiday season. I was looking forward to seeing all that this resort has to offer, from the holiday offerings to our hotel’s food offerings.
This was my first time staying at a Universal Orlando hotel. While we didn’t have much time, we were able to pack in many activities, food, and memories! Read on to learn more about why Universal Orlando should be your next girlfriend getaway.
1. Immersive Attractions

Universal Studios and Universal’s Islands of Adventure house more than 30 attractions catering to thrill seekers and those who prefer to immerse themselves in some of the beloved stories at a slower pace. My favorite attraction is The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! While it isn’t a rollercoaster, it doesn’t move as slowly as a train and offers beautiful sights of the park.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Take advantage of the early entry for resort guests if you’re staying on property at Universal Orlando to have up to an hour to experience the park and some of its attractions before the other guests arrive.
2. Themed Entertainment

There’s nothing like themed entertainment that will have you and your girlfriends in high spirits on your visit to Universal Orlando Resort. Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s at Universal Studios takes place daily during the holiday season (weather-dependent) and features beloved characters from Despicable Me, Shrek, and more.
If you spend time at Universal Islands of Adventure, you can celebrate Grinchmas by meeting The Grinch or seeing The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular show at Seuss Landing. The Whos roaming throughout the area draw a crowd, but are hard to miss in their colorful outfits.
If you visit Universal Orlando Resort during the non-holiday season, you can look forward to the Universal Mega Movie Parade and the opportunity to meet characters from DreamWorks Animation and other properties.
3. Unique Dining Experiences

While you can find good snack food in the parks, the resorts also offer high-quality food, especially at Terra Luna Resort. I recommend the breakfast tofu and the Meteorite Mousse dessert. While the prices are considerable, the portion sizes are much larger than I’ve seen at other theme parks and their accompanying resort hotels.
Whether you’re looking for a place to dine after spending time at the parks or even if you’re having a resort day, Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food at Universal CityWalk Orlando is a good pick. I recommend the tableside guacamole as a fun way to start your meal. The vegetable enchilada is another solid pick, too.
4. Lively Nightlife

You can experience plenty of nightlife offerings at Universal Orlando Resort, including Red Coconut Cub and Margaritaville. You can also watch a concert at Hard Rock Live Orlando if you’re able to purchase tickets. In addition to those paid experiences, you might see a pop-up performance at Universal CityWalk Orlando.
5. Relaxing Pools

All of the hotels at Universal Orlando have a pool, which you can enjoy if you’re staying on property. I stayed at Universal Orlando’s new Universal Terra Luna Resort and enjoyed spending time by the pool. Since the temperature was cooler during our visit, I was hoping that the pool was heated, which it was. This hotel also houses a hot tub “spa” area, too.
6. Fun Stuff Nearby

Universal CityWalk Orlando is located a couple of steps from the two theme parks. This outdoor shopping center houses several restaurants, including The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, and Bigfire, to name a few. You can also find Universal Cinemark movie theater at Universal CityWalk Orlando.
If you prefer to stay away from the theme parks, you can visit Universal Volcano Bay water park, 11 on-site hotels, Hollywood Drive-In Golf, or Universal’s Great Movie Escape for a fun yet thought-provoking time.
7. Easy Meetup Location

One of the biggest advantages of a Universal Orlando girlfriend getaway is its ease of access. I was easily able to take a rideshare service to the property. That said, if you plan on flying into Orlando, Universal Orlando Resort is only 15 miles away from the MCO airport. Furthermore, the resort has buses and boats to transport between properties.
