Living in the heart of New York City, sometimes I need a break from the constant urban noise and chaos. Retreating to a destination filled with an abundance of tall trees, winding roads, small towns and sparkling lakes always provides the tranquility I crave. The Adirondacks in upstate New York is one of my favorite getaways. I recently escaped to the Adirondacks, where I discovered the charming town of Schroon Lake. I arrived at this little-known locale at that pivotal moment when summer turns to autumn. It was perfect timing for my first visit to The Lodge at Schroon Lake.
This trip was hosted, but all opinions are my own.
Love at First Sight

The moment I saw The Lodge at Schroon Lake, I was smitten! Perched at the edge of its namesake lake, the lodge blends seamlessly into the surrounding wooded landscape. Unlike most resort properties, The Lodge at Schroon Lake isn’t one massive building with hundreds of rooms. Rather, it consists of several buildings. Recently renovated, the 36-acre property includes the following:
- A historic 10,000-square-foot restaurant
- Indoor pool
- Fitness center
- Waterfront beach with docks
- Indoor recreation space
- Mini golf course
- Playgrounds
Lodging options are plentiful with the resort offering over 100 guest rooms, including hotel rooms, suites, chalets, cabins and seasonal glamping sites. Additionally, the property’s former performance venue has been converted into an event space/ballroom that accommodates up to 200 guests.

Adorable and cozy, the Bird’s Nests cabins feature a queen bed and private bathroom with stand-up shower. The cabins include access to the Cubs Den Bathhouse for a shared kitchen and living area—rates from $150.
Glamp it Up in the Warmer Months

In warmer months, guests have the option to book glamping tents. The tents surround the pond, and each tent features a deck with seating to enjoy the view of the pond and back lawn. Lakeside Chalets

The Lakeside Chalets captured my attention the moment I arrived at The Lodge at Schroon Lake. Perched on a hill overlooking the waters of Schroon Lake, these private residences feature a well-appointed queen bedroom downstairs and a king bedroom in an upstairs loft. Each chalet also provides two full bathrooms, living room, kitchenette and porches downstairs and upstairs with views of the lake and its surrounding tree covered forest. Priced from $489.
SheBuysTravel Insider Tip: If you wake up during the night, step outside on the porch and check out the beautiful night sky.
Where to Dine

Locally sourced farm-to-table menus feature Adirondacks-inspired cuisine in each of the three restaurants onsite. The historic Brown Swan began as the Brown Swan Club in 1916 and has served Adirondack guests for over 100 years. Maple Bourbon Chicken, Grilled Salmon and Butternut Squash Ravioli are just a few of the tempting entrees served on the dinner menu in this family-friendly eatery. The Brown Swan also serves lunch with tantalizing options, including the Mac & Cheese Bowl with chicken and bacon, the Black & Blue Burger, flatbreads and an assortment of salads.
For a more casual vibe, The Tavern at the Brown Swan offers a pub-style menu ideal for catching up on sports games. Live music is often on tap on weekend nights.
In the lobby of the main lodge, The Bevy lounge is family-friendly, offering an array of lite bites and a full bar for the grown-ups. The Bevy also offers a tasty breakfast buffet seasonally.
Year-Round Resort Activities

The Lodge at Schroon Lakes hosts a variety of activities throughout the year. Examples include:
- Classic lawn games

- Scavenger hunts
- Arts & Crafts for kids
- Campfire s’mores
The resort also features basketball courts, a pickleball court, outdoor movies and volleyball. The Bevy Lounge has board games, cards, checkers and more to keep everyone entertained even on a rainy day.
In warmer months, the resort’s marina offers a variety of watercraft for exploring Schroon Lake. Single and double occupancy kayaks, paddleboards and pontoon boats are available as rentals. For an exclusive adventure, consider a Chris Craft boat tour. I chose this tour for my autumn adventure on the lake and learned about the history of the Adirondacks, the unique architecture of the homes on the lakefront and entertaining stories of some of the local characters.
