My Stay

When I first stepped through the door of Rusty Parrot Lodge and Spa, I felt like I’d been welcomed into a family home, not checked into a hotel. With just 40 rooms, this family-run property instantly felt like a cozy retreat.

Wood-burning fireplaces, wool throws draped over chairs, deep soaking tubs, handcrafted Italian linens and cookies still warm from the oven waiting each afternoon to welcome you back from the day’s adventures — all of it adds up to a kind of cozy that’s hard to find.

Overall Impressions

Just a few blocks from downtown Jackson, the Rusty Parrot blends rugged Western charm with modern comforts. Ron Harrison first opened the hotel in 1990, but a devastating fire destroyed the original building a year before the pandemic.

The Harrison family rebuilt from the ground up, reopening in July 2024. Salvaged Western artwork saved from the fire line the walls. My favorite detail is the original parrot sculpture rescued from the ashes now hangs above the fireplace in the lobby like a rusty phoenix rising from the flames.

The property’s greatest strength is still its focus on personal service and an intimate atmosphere. Couples can hole up in their rooms, escape to the acclaimed spa or linger over a gourmet dinner, balancing Jackson’s high‑energy adventures with quiet moments together.

Pros of the Rusty Parrot

  • Exceptional Service: The staff’s warmth and local know‑how make you feel like a welcome guest, not just another booking.
  • Prime Location: It offers the best of both worlds. It’s located on a quiet street, yet it’s just a 10-minute walk to downtown Jackson’s vibrant shops, bars and restaurants.
  • Intimate & Cozy: Rooms feature deep soaking tubs and, in some cases, wood‑burning fireplaces perfect for curling up together.
  • High-End Amenities: From the award-winning Wild Sage restaurant to the full-service Body Sage Spa to a peaceful outdoor hot tub, every detail is designed for luxury.

Cons of the Rusty Parrot

  • Price Point: The Rusty Parrot is a luxury boutique hotel, so it comes with a higher price tag compared to standard hotels in the area. The value is there, but it is a splurge.
  • Limited Views: Some ground-floor rooms may not offer the expansive mountain views that can be found in rooms with a balcony or on higher floors.

SheBuysTravel Tip: Leverage the concierge! They are your secret weapon for the best experience in Jackson. They’ll build a custom itinerary, score hard‑to‑get dinner reservations and even arrange a private wildlife safari.

Is the Rusty Parrot Lodge & Spa a good romantic getaway for couples?

Absolutely. From the quiet intimacy of its cozy library to the wildlife viewing decks framing moose and elk with the Tetons beyond, the three-story lodge feels designed for connection. Rooms come with couple‑friendly touches like deep soaking tubs and, in some, a gas fireplace you can curl up next to.

The Rusty’s Parrot’s boutique size and attention to detail give it an unpretentious, homey feel that makes it easy to relax and focus on each other.

What spa and massage services are available for couples at the Rusty Parrot?

Body Sage Spa is the kind of place that starts from humble roots and grows into something special. Heidi Harrison launched it by giving massages to guests out of a storage closet. In between studying yoga in India and Thai massage in Bali, she built it into a multiple-room, four-star spa where relaxation is taken seriously.

Couples can indulge together in the couple’s suite, enjoying treatments like:

  • Couples Connection Massage : Side‑by‑side Swedish or deep tissue sessions, letting each person choose their oils and pressure.

  • Fade Into You : Bathing ritual plus side‑by‑side massage.

  • Unfold & Wild Nature: Exfoliation, wraps and botanical treatments in side‑by‑side formats.

How does the Rusty Parrot compare in price and amenities to other hotels in Jackson for couples?

The Rusty Parrot lives in the boutique luxury lane. Sure, it’s more expensive than your basic chain hotels in town. And yes, it’s more intimate (and less sprawling) than the ultra-luxury resorts like Amangani. But the value is in the experience. From the quiet comfort of the rooms to the staff who remember your name to the deeply relaxing spa treatments, it all feels curated for you.

Its value comes from the personalized service, intimate atmosphere and top-tier amenities—like the on-site AAA Four-Diamond Wild Sage restaurant and the acclaimed Body Sage Spa. One of my favorite features of the hotel was the fact it was less then a ten minute walk to downtown Jackson.

What unique experiences or packages does the Rusty Parrot offer for couples?

While you won’t find pre-set romance packages plastered across the website, that’s actually a plus. The Rusty Parrot specializes in tailoring the experience. Want a private wildlife safari through Grand Teton? Done. Looking for a sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge? They’ll handle it. Want a romantic in-room dinner or a surprise gift for your partner? Just ask.

The staff’s deep local knowledge helps you experience Jackson like an insider, not a tourist.

When is the best time for couples to visit the Rusty Parrot in Jackson, Wyoming?

One thing I love about Jackson is that each season offers a completely different type of vacation experience.

Summer (June–August): For couples who thrive on outdoor adventure, summer is pure magic. Picture yourselves hiking hand-in-hand through Grand Teton National Park, biking into town for a shared lunch and watching a breathtaking sunset from The Perch deck, perhaps with a glass of wine. The lodge’s 2024 renovations truly shine under the long days and vibrant skies, making every moment feel special.

Fall (September–October): Fall might be my favorite season in Wyoming. There are fewer crowds so you feel like you have the town to yourself. As the early autumn elk migrations begin, you can enjoy wildlife viewing with your honey before returning to the lodge for a cozy fireside evening.

Winter (December–March): A stay here in winter is the ultimate cozy retreat. Imagine waking up to a blanket of romantic snow, hitting the powder at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and then coming back to the warmth of your lofted fireplace—which is a blessing on a frigid morning! Don’t skip a couples spa day between ski runs to reset aching muscles.

Spring (April–May): Shoulder season means more space to yourselves. Wildlife reappears, the rivers run again and it’s a peaceful time to reconnect without the pressure of big itineraries.

The rebuilt Rusty Parrot was designed with safety in mind. The structure is now concrete and steel for fire resistance, with modern sprinkler and alarm systems throughout. The property is well‑lit at night, with secure room key access and 24‑hour front desk coverage.

If you’re flying in, the hotel can arrange a private transfer or point you toward rental car options. Driving? Jackson is accessible via scenic highways from Idaho, Montana and Wyoming—though winter roads can be challenging, so check conditions before you go.
