Conference trips to Las Vegas can be hit or miss, especially as a female traveling solo. I want things to feel easy, safe and convenient after long days. The MGM Grand Las Vegas, with its newly renovated rooms, proved to be a smart, comfortable home base. The rooms are generously sized, elevator access requires a room key and once you’re inside the resort, everything is right there under one roof: restaurants, Starbucks and major entertainment.
Staying at the largest hotel in the U.S. can be a dream or a logistical nightmare. Here is the “too long; didn’t read” (TL;DR) for your 2026 trip:
- The Vibe: High-energy, massive and “everything under one roof.” And yes, there’s Starbucks in the lobby.
- The Rooms: Aim for the Stay Well or newly renovated King rooms to avoid the older, “classic” decor.
- Best For: Women travelers who value comfort, space and safety; work trips where reliable transit beats walkability; or girlfriend getaways or mother-daughter trips for the shows, dining and convenience in one place.
- The Catch: You will hit your 10,000 steps just walking to breakfast. Wear comfortable shoes.
SheBuysTravel Tip: Get the MGM Rewards App where you can digitally check in up to 24 hours in advance, avoiding the long lines. Your app will hold your digital key and let you buy tickets to shows, reserve seating at restaurants and even order more towels. Available on the App Store and Google Play.

Renovated Rooms With Space to Breathe

Almost 4000 guest rooms were recently renovated, and they’re notably large, modern and comfortable. My king room was in the Main Tower and it was my sanctuary after a long day of meetings. I loved having plenty of room to unpack and a large bathroom to spread out my toiletries. The bed was genuinely comfortable and despite the subtle disco-inspired decor, the room felt calm and quiet.

The Free Tram stop at the MGM Grand: Aria Express
MGM Grand sits on the south end of the Strip, while Caesars Forum is farther north. The tram doesn’t go to Caesars Forum, but it does remove a big chunk of Strip walking and traffic from your commute. I had 3 options for getting to Caesar’s Forum:
-
Take the free MGM shuttle and connect to the monorail (20 minutes) ROUTE : MGM Grand → Aria Express Tram → Bellagio → Bally’s/Horseshoe Monorail → Harrah’s & The LINQ → Caesars Forum
-
Walk (about 30 minutes)
-
Rideshare
It’s worth noting that the Aria Express conveniently connects MGM guests to more entertainment options at other MGM hotels: Bellagio, Park MGM and the Aria.
Restaurants, Shows and Essentials Easily Accessible

One of MGM Grand’s strongest advantages is what surrounds it. This made the stay feel flexible and livable, not just convenient for sleep.
Within a short walk, we found:
- A wide range of restaurants and shows
- A nearby Target and Walgreens for snacks, toiletries or forgotten essentials
- Easy access to other Strip resorts without committing to long treks

We saw KA on site, because it’s Cirque Du Soleil and most of all, it required zero extra planning, no driving, no long walk after the show. Other resident entertainment options include David Copperfield, Jabbawockeez and comedians at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club.
Frequently Asked Questions: Staying at MGM Grand
1. Is MGM Grand a safe choice for a solo female traveler? Yes. With 24/7 security, key-card-restricted elevators and a high volume of foot traffic at all hours, the resort is a popular, well-monitored choice. For extra peace of mind, opt for a room in the main tower and use the internal walkways to avoid walking on the Strip alone late at night.
2. How do I avoid the long check-in lines at MGM Grand? The best way to save time is to use the MGM Rewards App. You can complete your check-in digitally up to 24 hours before arrival, get a digital key sent to your phone, and head straight to the elevators, completely bypassing the busy lobby front desk.
3. Is the MGM Grand too big to be convenient for a short trip? It is one of the largest hotels in the world, so it does require some planning. However, because it houses almost everything—from Starbucks and diverse dining to the Cirque du Soleil KA theater and a monorail station—it is actually incredibly convenient for travelers who want to minimize time spent commuting across the city.
4. What is the easiest way to travel from MGM Grand to other Strip attractions? To head toward the North Strip or Caesars Forum, use the Las Vegas Monorail (station on-site). For destinations like the Bellagio, Aria, or Park MGM, use the Aria Express Tram, which is free and significantly faster than walking or taking a ride-share through traffic.
5. Which room types should I book for the best experience? Aim for the “Stay Well” rooms or the recently renovated King rooms. These offer a modern, fresh aesthetic that feels like a calm sanctuary compared to the older “classic” rooms, which may show more wear and tear.
6. Does MGM Grand have easy access to food and essentials? Absolutely. You’ll find a wide variety of restaurants on-site ranging from casual food courts to fine dining. For essentials like snacks, toiletries, or water, there is a Target and Walgreens within easy walking distance just off the property, saving you from high resort prices.
7. How many steps should I expect to walk inside the hotel? Expect a lot! Because of its footprint, it is common to hit 10,000 steps just by walking to breakfast and navigating the resort. Pack your most comfortable walking shoes—you will be grateful you did when moving between your room, the casino floor and the monorail.
8. Are there good entertainment options on-site? Yes, you can see world-class shows like KA by Cirque du Soleil without ever leaving the property. This is a major benefit for solo travelers or those on a tight conference schedule, as it eliminates the need for extra driving or complex post-show logistics.
9. What can I do for free nearby to clear my head? My favorite “mental break” is walking over to the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. It’s breathtaking, free and changes seasonally. If you’re willing to walk a bit further (or hop on the free tram), watching the Bellagio Fountains at sunset is the quintessential Vegas experience that never gets old. Think Ocean’s Eleven.
10. I’m traveling to Las Vegas with my kids – what are the best things to do? Whether you stay at the MGM Grand or the MGM Signature property (which is quieter and has a kitchen), family activities include onsite Top Golf and, of course, the pool complex!
